She thought back over the last year of trying to keep her new abilities secret. As well as figure out where they had come from.
She had already forgotten the SRU store and the costume. Its magic had been expended and now it was just an ordinary costume that she had bought sometime after the fact.
And what was the fact? To her mind at least.
The fact was that she had been bitten by a spider that had come with a shipment of roses she had ordered from New York. After a night of pain and agony she had awakened...thinking in manners somewhat less cloudy than she had the day before.
And that wasn't all. She had SKIN TONE. Oh sure, she was still pale, but it was a normal pale now, not that white color. Several old injuries from training had healed.
It wasn't hard for Kodachi to determine what had happened. And from there, it was rather easy to track the origin of the spider. The lab researching them was no secret after all. Unfortunately, the scientists and the company had since moved on toward other things, and tracking down the lab information she wanted was proving more difficult.
Which was why she was on the plane.
And she was going to stay, for a long time. However long it would take to find answers. These powers were all well and good, but she doubted that they came without a price. There was duty, of course. She understood bushido well enough, at least now she did. But she was worried about physical prices. The impact on any children she might have, psychological changes, phsyiological changes, further mutations, these were what concerned her now.
So she had, through the Kuno family acquired a small living space with room for a garden for her plants. And she had gotten a student visa to use while she started college classes.
As to why the US government didn't make a stink about a seventeen year old girl living alone...
Well, after driving herself almost to madness (or back to madness rather) she had managed to graduate a bit early. And then...well, apparently her birth-year had mysteriously been set down incorrectly and it had somehow been confirmed by the Japanese government. So, by means that Kodachi certainly didn't know of, honest, the US government thought she was eighteen.
And so after the plane landed, Kodachi moved into...
