Prejudice and Fear - Darkened Hearts: "Leep"ing Into Inaction [Episode 88760]

by Philip Weigel

"Master Leep?"

"Hmm?"

"Why didn't you go along with what the council asked?"

Leep, a four-foot-tall bald man, looked at his student seriously. He was sitting at a small round table situated in an open grassy area near the gates of his training facility. "And if I did Saria? What good could come from it?"

Saria, a green haired human that was five-foot-nine, a bit top-heavy and skilled at using water to her advantage, blinked. "I don't get it."

Leep sighed. "Uneducated the Youth are nowadays, are they not?" He chuckled at his student's discomfort, she was a newbe, only being there for a few months now and as such, she wore just the green training outfit that showed off as much skin as possible, yet leaving just enough covered so that the censors would allow it to be published. "Why did the Weresmilidon say that rhyme?"

Saria blinked. "Um, the rhyme, 'Twinkle, twinkle, eleven in all, one by one you shall fall, fight or flee, it matters not to me, I fight to be free, you fight to defeat me.'? What does that have to do with anything?"

Leep sighed and took a quick sip from his tea cup. "Youth is wasted on the young I think, eh? From what has happened I hear, the Smilidon has been hunted the entire time he has been on Jade. Death squads, mercanaries and even the Edge Guard have gone after him. But why? There is no real reason for that. If someone told him that to get the Death Squads and mercanaries off of his back all he had to do was defeat the Weaponsmasters? What do you think he would do?"

Saria nodded and sighed. "I suppose that you're right master." She turned to leave.

Leep grinned. "Now for distrubing my tea time.... STEALTH GOOSE!"

*SLAP! GROPE!*

"EEK!" Saria turned and glared at the old man. "You, you dirty old man you!"

Leep chuckled. "Twas harmless fun." He laughed a bit as Saria's eye twitched and left. After watching her rump wiggle around, Leep thought seriously on the problem. 'He has already defeated Tsunami, Julia's father. This is not good. Most people in Jade are so afraid of the Smilidon that they'll either attack him on sight or run away.'

Leep leaned back in his chair and thought about another problem that was presenting itself. 'Why is the council so hell bent on this anyway? There's no real need to get rid of the Weresmilidon.'

No, Leep didn't think that the Weresmilidon was evil. There were many reasons for this... The biggest one had to be... 'Happosai. My brother, if there was ever an evil out there, it would have to be you.'

Oh sure, Leep knew of all the tales of the Weresmilidon and how evil it was... But there was something... 'Off' about those tales. 'Like the fact that in all the time of Jade and the Retreat there's never been a recorded sighting of a Weresmilidon until now.' He knew that the Council of Mages kept records of everything that happened on Jade, no matter what, and for them to NOT have a single record of the Weresmilidon up until now and STILL put a bounty on the creature's head... 'Something to think about.'
