He didn't know alot about magic, but Ranma knew Theo couldn't move to dodge and keep the gate open to the Undead Realm. Jonathan was already falling through it, but he wouldn't be completly through in time if Theo stopped his spell to dodge. Watching Theo's eyes widen in shock, then narrow in determination.
Even as Ranma began moving he felt his respect for the man rise exponintially by his act of self sacrifice. He willing to risk his own life to send his father away, to protect his family and the ones he cared about the most.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Julia suddenly leap from the children, her face had lost the cold stoic mask she wore in battle, now a mask of stark horror as she raced to protect her husband.
Inch by inch Ranma got closer to the magical projectiles path, even now he didn't know if he was going to make it in time.
Inch by inch Julia got closer to her husband, even now she didn't know if she could make it in time to save her husband.
Theo watched the ball of eldritch menance bear down on him, it's shimmering red surface leaving sparks of red lighting through the air as it passed.
The poor little tree behind Theodore wondered what the hell was going on, but being a tree it couldn't see what was coming.
BOOOOOOOOM!
Theo rolled out of the way as the ball of red death flew over him. He didn't believe he'd survive if he got hit with that bad boy, and he sure as heck wasn't going to test his luck.
A patridge suddenly startled and flew away from the tree as it was consumed in a torrent of red lightning, and thus no more.
