Yuri sighed mentally as Gouley picked up the papers, apparently in preparation to tell the Lovely Angels their mission this time. It would probably be to capture a dangerous criminal who was doing seriously Bad Things like last time, or to guard an important bigwig's son's daughter's half-cousin's brother-in-law like the time before that, or to investigate a mysterious disappearance of cheese from a local convenience store like the one five missions ago. That last one turned out to have the most stunning consequences for galactic peace, though Yuri never understood exactly why. Not that she particularly cared; she simply chalked it up to the ol' CC being enigmatic again.
With very unbaited breath, Yuri awaited their latest assignment (or 'busywork' as she liked to call it, especially the seemingly pointless stuff).
"Your mission is to investigate a mysterious lightspeed signal from a lost colonizing fleet," said Gouley.
Well, it was different, Yuri had to admit.
"Wait. Aren't colonies the jurisdiction of the Colonization and Expansion Authority branch?" asked Yuri. Tro-Conning some group of grubby colonists complaining that they didn't have enough food or water did not fit her definition of fun.
Chief Gouley sighed. "Personally, I'd too like to keep you two as far away from places where people are setting up new lives for themselves, but unfortunately, the reports from this colony are very grim."
"Still don't see why we have to babysit a few thousand uppity and obnoxious space pioneers. Feh," Yuri pouted, crossing her arms. "Get the proper people to do it!"
"There seems to be an unusual situation developing," continued Gouley, "They are far beyond the scope of the usual authorities.
