At the edge of nowhere: Rembering events and lunch [Episode 90357]

by Swifty

Ukyou and Ranma stared blankly into each other's eyes for what seemed like ages before Ukyou remembered what happened.

"Maybe we should play Twister more often Ran-Chan." Ukyou said with an uncertain smile.

Ranma froze even more (if it were possible). Twister. Twister!! That might explain why I have a major headache. Ranma wracked his brain and started remembering what happened. "Uh.. umm... Ucchan..." Ranma struggled to find the right words for what was on his mind.

"It's okay Ran-Chan. There's still plenty of time left in the day." Ukyou said, indicating the clock.

11:30pm!! Jeez... it's still MORNING!?! Ranma noticed that there was a large Twister mat covered with liquid substances which he would rather not think about. "Ucchan. Whaddya say we go someplace else for a while. I'm starvin' and it's almost lunchtime and we've already...!!" Ranma caught himself before he finished the sentence.

Ukyou nodded in agreement and they both cleaned themselves up, got dressed and quickly ran out of the hotel remembering to NOT pay the bill for damages, litter, trashing the room, their brief stay, etc.

Ranma and Ukyou were walking down a street about half an hour later wondering what was open today. Ranma looked to his side where Ukyou was holding his arm. "Where do you think we should go to eat?" He asked his cheerful wife-for-the-day. Ukyou though about this for a minute. The Cat Cafe would have Shampoo there and the results wouldn't be too great. Ukyou wouldn't mind going back to her place where she can cook anything for Ranma and herself. In the end she just said, "Where ever you want to Ran-Chan."

Ranma, knowing that he was "married" to his childhood friend for the day, and being the utterly nervous gy he was, decided to play it safe and took her to a nice restaurant where it wasn't too pricy, cheap or fancy, it was just right in pricing, good food and looked posh. Ukyou's eyes lit up when she saw the fancy interior of the restaurant. "Oh! Ran-Chan!" She looked at him and gave him a squeezy hug, which he suprisingly returned.

Ranma was telling his gut to shut up as the main course was being served. Being a good boy today, he ordered a regular sized main, as opposed to the mega upsized meal he usually eats daily. Ukyou was half-way through her own when she decided it was too quiet for comfort. "Ran-Chan, How would you feel if we did do something like this, on the odd occasion?"

Ranma paused with the chopsticks in his mouth and blinked a few times. "You... sure Ucchan?" Ranma carefully picked out his words and said them, nervously. "Yeah, I'm sure. It does feel good to eat somewhere nice and alone for a change." Ranma's sense of "fiancee-hitting-on-him" kicked in about this time and nearly choked on the bit of rice he was trying to swallow. "Ran-Chan! You okay?" Ukyou walked over and rubbed his back and gave his back a light slap which caused him to fully swallow the food. "Thanks Ucchan. I don't know what I'd do without you." Ranma suddenly realised what he'd just said. I hope she doesn't read it the wrong way like normal. Then silently prayed that she got the right message.

Ukyou sat back in her seat and continued her meal. "I feel the same way about you to Ran-Chan." Oh no, she took it the wrong way! Ranma thought. However, Ukyou had actually gotten the right message for a change.

She remembered a time when they were kids and Ukyo was getting frustrated about her okonomiyaki not turning out right. Ranma had calmed her down and told her to take it easy. "If you keep it up at this rate, you'll never be good at it." Ranma had told Ukyou. "How can you say such a mean thing?" Ukyou had protested back. Ranma just sighed. "You haven't slept for three days now, and you've been cooking okonomiyaki non-stop. If you don't rest or take a break to give yourself time to freshen up, you'll never achieve what you're working so hard for." Ranma had grabbed her two spatulas and put them next to her father. "Come back fresh and you may have missed something you didn't notice before."

As the couple finished their main course, Ukyou had stopped thinking about that day and decided to jog Ranma's mind. "Ran-Chan. Do you remember that time you told me to rest every now and then so that I could perfect my oknomiyaki skills when we were kids?" Ranma scratched his head for a minute then shook his head. "Looking back on it now, I wouldn't have gotten so good if you hadn't have said something. So, if you didn't say something or we just never met, I don't know what I'd do." Ukyou blushed slightly but Ranma didn't notice it.

"You gotta admit Ucchan, those were good times we had as kids." Ranma looked back to that brief period of time and took some comfort on knowing that the person he helped out back then was this lovely girl who was one of his fiancees. I am lucky to know her. Wait, what am I thinking?

Ranma paid the bill and they walked out down the street in search of their next event. At about that time, Ryouga had managed to find Ranma after three days of wandering. When he saw Ranma and Ukyou happily walking down the street like a couple, he thought of Akane, who was being dragged around by Kuno right infront of him. Ryouga then yelled out to Ranma. "Ranma!!" Ranma and Ukyou looked to the other side of the street to see Ryouga Hibiki, dressed in clothes with five tears in them surprisingly enough. "Hey! Ryouga, where've you been lately?" Ranma said through a smile.

"Ranma... you two-timing bastard! Have you no shame allowing that idiot Kuno drag her around like that?" Ryouga had started running accross the road at Ranma and Ukyou, who was still hanging onto his arm. Ryouga then saw Ukyou and slowed to a stop by the two. "Ukyou." Ranma stared at this little scene. "Uhh... hey, Ryouga. Are you alright man?"

Ukyou held out the note informing the students about Furinken Couples Day and that she and Ranma were couples. Ryouga then handed the note back to Ukyou. "Oh. I see that this is an assignment then. How could you let Akane-san be paired with Kuno?" Ryouga's face showing signs of anger. Ranma just sighed. "It was a random drawing, plus Kuno had "requested" his pairing up with Akane."

Just then, it started to rain lightly, but enough for Ranma and Ryouga to change. Ranma-Chan stood in the drizzle with Ukyou who wasn't surprised one bit. Ukyou picked up P-Chan, Ryouga's clothes and bag and they went back to her place.

One kettle later and Ryouga took his clothes and changed into them. Ryouga then decided to let Ranma off the hook for today. "Ranma, don't think that I'm doing this for your sake." Ryouga opened up his umbrella and walked out, hoping to get to his house two blocks away nefore his favourite TV show comes on.

Ranma and Ukyou were left alone again and a grin covered Ranma's face. Ukyou looked at Ranma for a minute or two, blinking in a clueless way. "Ran-Chan, what're you--OH!"
