Ranma woke and stretched his arms as he sat up on his futon, preparing for yet another day of insanity at the Tendo Dojo - except, where he awoke did not look like the guest room of the Dojo, and he wasn't sitting on a futon.
She was sitting in what appeared to be a pet basket in the corner of a dark room. Around her were several rows of cages - most filled with shadowy forms that she instinctively knew were animals. She wasn't sure how she knew, but she could sense cats, dogs, mice and others she couldn't identify in the various cages.
He was momentarily confused by his lack of fear at the thought of cats, and also by the strange emotions he was feeling about the dogs and mice, but a calming voice in a corner of his mind suggested that it wasn't important.
At that point she finally realised that she too was in a cage. Quickly springing to her feet she bounded across to one of the cage walls and curled a hand around one of the bars.
He stared down in shock at the hand before him. Was that fur on his arm?
She brushed her arm with her free hand and felt the silken sensation of fine hairs rubbing against her skin. It was definitely fur.
Shaking the bars in front of him, he felt a volatile mixture of fear and anger swelling in his gut.
"Let me out of here!" she shouted, straining against the thick bars of her cage.
