“This is a pet shop…”
Ranma gulped. “Well, if this is some kinda mistake, are you gonna turn me back?”
The vet thought about that, "I honestly don't know, this has never come up before. I'll have to talk with my manager," and he tossed in what looked like a small cushion. "Catnip. It won't affect you as much as it would a real cat, but I think you'll still like it," and he slipped out, heading for the manager's office.
That worthy look up at his entrance, and her zebra-girl assistant looked over as well; like most furries, she found her hair to be sufficient covering. "It's the new kitten, isn't it?" The vet looked startled and she continued, "I thought it might go wrong, but... " She sighed, "I can't change him back. Actually, I could, but I could never justify the cost. For now, the best we can do for him is to strengthen his masculine self-image a bit; go back and offer him this... "
He listened and started to smile a bit. That would work very well, he thought as he returned to the storage area, and a slightly stoned Ran-neko. She smiled dreamily up at him, "So what's the word? I getting turned back?"
He shook his head, "Not yet. You see, it costs a lot to transfur someone, and to reverse the process would cost just as much. We would normally get that back by selling you," and he stepped back as Ranma's battle aura begane to swirl, "but since you didn't know what you were doing when you filled out the form, the manager's got another idea."
Her aura was still swirling, but not as much, "Go on." Even stoned, the girl was still pretty alert, and even Ranma had learned a few things from dealing with Nabiki. If there was a way out of this, she'd only find it with really close listening and thinking.
The vet cleared his throat, "Well, we're going to give you a psychological treatment to strengthen your masculine self-image, enough that you'll think of yourself as basically male but not enough that you'll be uncomfortable with your current body. After that's done, you'll be indentured to us until you've earned enough to pay for your retransformation."
Ranma thought about it, didn't sound too bad. He'd messed up, he had to pay for that. He wasn't his pop, running out on everything, he faced up to his responsibilties. "So what kinda' work are we talkin' about here?"
The vet smiled, "Well, considering your skills and your current state, you're going to become a... "
