And Thus, Ranma becomes a Brigand... Julia Brigand... / "Yes, you got my attention Thryth!" [Episode 923]

by Red Priest of the 17th Order

A 12-year-old Ranma trugged along the known woods. She was unsure about this place. Then again, she wasn't sure about many places, thanks to her cats...

"Or should I say, 'cat'?" Ranma thought moreosely to herself.

Looking over at the big black cat, Ranma was unsure how all cats cats rolled into one larger cat. What was even more surprising to her, is that it's collar said 'Toltirr'.

"And where have you gotten me this time, Toltirr?" Ranma asked her feline companion. "I'd swear, if you weren't the only one there for me for 5 years ago, I'd have gone off by myself to train and be in a lot better position than I am now."

Toltirr looked upa t Ranma and smirked.

Blinking Ranma replied, "I still don't know how a cat smirks. And speaking of what I don't know, where did you lead me this time?"

As if to answer her, Ranma walked into a sigh-post and fell backwards, a large lump on her head. The sign said "Rydia: City of the Giants"

Toltirr shook his head. He really didn't understand how his human familiar could be so incompetant sometimes... But at least he finally got her where she needed to be.

Awaking from her forced nap slowly, Ranma gained consciousness. Looking around, she saw she was in a bed and the walls were made from tree logs. "It's like I'm in a cabin of some sorts..." Ranma thought. Looking around, she noticed the ceiling must have been close to 20' high.

Suddenly, there was a creaking, as if something heavy was moving down the hall and making the floorboards give under the pressure. The door to the room Ranma was in slowly opened, and Ranma sat up, shocked by what came in.

The woman who was now in the room stood tall at 14' and was incredibly muscular. She had blonde hair in two buns at the side of her head and grayish-blue eyes. She wore a brown one-piece and she was carrying a tray of some food. "I see you're up little one. Are you hungry?"

Ranma was about to protest, but then she felt her stomach grumble. She then realized there'd be no use denying it. "Yes, I am a bit famished. Would that food be for me?"

The larger woman laughed heartilly and put the tray on a night-table next to the bed. "Eat up. You practically look emaciated little one."

The woman seemed to laugh as she watched Ranam finish the bowl of mutton, leg of lamb, loaf of bread, and mug of ale in under 5 minutes. "Well, you certainly have the appetite of my people."

Looking up from the now empty plates, Ranma bowed her head. "Thank you Miss..." Ranma then blushed. "Uh... Sorry, I didn' get your name."

Laughing a bit again, the woman calmed herself down. "My name is Brunhildagard Brigand... But please..." The woman began. "Call me, 'Mumsey'."

Nodding her head, Ranma smiled. "All right Mumsey. I'm..." Ranma's eyes widened. She realized she couldn't remember her name. Or what had hapened before she woke up in this room for that matter.

Noting the fear in Ranma's looks, Mumsey became concerned. "Is something wrong dear?"

Ranma stared at seemingly nothing. "I can't remember my name..."

Frowning, Mumsey looked serious. "Do you remember anything?" Seeing Ranma nod her head, Mumsey frowned a bit more. "Well, we can't have that..." Suddenly, Mumsey's face seemed to light up and she smiled, albeit. "What do you think about the name 'Julia'?"

Ranma thought about it for a bit, then after a moment or two, she nodded her head. "Yes, it sounds nice."

Smiling, Mumsey then spoke. "That was the name of my daughter who died a few years ago from an attack by a few rogue Red Dragons..." Then, Mumsey seemed to change the subject. "You know, you remind me so much of my dear Julia... It would seem like as if the gods just dropped you back down to Jade from heaven..."

After a moment of pondering, Mumsey became serious. "Julia, I have a favor to ask of you... I was wondering since you don't have anything else to do, how would you like to live here?"

Ranma/Julia blinked. "Are you saying you want me to stay here?" She asked.

Mumsey nodded her head. "Yes... I was hoping... Well, I know I just met you, but I was hoping you would like to be part of my family."

Staring at Mumsey for a moment, Ranma/Julia wasn't sure what to think. Within her, Ranma/Julia felt a feeling of emptiness when she tried to think about the idea of a mother ot parent figure, as if she never had one. After a moment, Ranma/Julia nodded his head. "Yes... I would be glad to take the name Julia and be part of your family Ms. Brigand."

Smiling, Mumsey said, "It's 'Mrs.' actually. Though I must admit my husband is a bit of a traveller. Being the head of Jade's Ninja Clan puts him on the road a lot."

Ranma/Julia couldn't help but feel happy. This nice lady was giving her a name, a family, and a home. "THANK YOU SO MUCH MUMSEY!" Ranma/Julia said as she lunged forward from the bed, grabbing the larger woman in a hug.

"Please Julia..." Mumsey said as she hugged the small red-head. "Call me, 'mom'."

(------)

On a foothill outside the city of Rydia, Toltirr sat on his haunches, staring at the building Ranma was taken into. Suddenly, Toltirr's form became a black blob, which then reformed into the shape of a man... A Hawaiian man... A VERY FAT Hawaiian man. He wore a grass skirt, sandals, and a Mystic's Mask.

"Yes..." The Hawaiian said. "Jade now has her champion... So proclaims I, SABBO! THE HIDDEN EMPEROR OF JADE!!!"

Calming down, Sabbo narrowed his eyes back onto the Brigand household. "And do not worry Ranma... As those wishes were granted they will come true with time..."

(------)

"Being the most beautiful and desirable woman..."

"Ha ha! You're cute, but not THAT cute!" Julia said to the Aura Mage who she had down on the ground. That's what he gets for interfering with the Tournament, even if he was trying to protect her,

(------)

"A genius..."

We see a view of Julia Winning the Tournament of Arms and becoming Jade's Armsmaster for the first time.

Staring at the winner's podium, where Julia stands victorious, Sabbo shrugs his shoulders. "... I guess a martial arts genius will do..."

(------)

"A rich and handsome husband..."

Flash Forward to Julia & Theo's honeymoon, and their near-destruction at the hands of Dr. Peachbody and salvation by Brianna.

"Stupid time-travelling Labrador!!!" Brianna shouted as she hurled explosives at Peachbody and his boy Benji.

(------)

Today...

Sitting on the couch in the library, Julia closed the photo album she had been keeping. She had many memories of her and her family, and many other events, but there was one thing that was bothering here... Something she learned from her mother most recently.

"Where was I born if not Jade?" Julia asked herself.
