If Nabiki were there, she would have been making sure to call up numerous people of the Nerima Wrecking Crew who still had SOME interest in Ranma, to see what amounts of money she could make. Information was power, after all, and people are willing to pay big bucks for the right words.
Choosing the wiser path at their feet, Soun and Genma stared at the tiger-woman in shock and kept their mouths shut, lest the get the wrath of Akane on their heads. A carefully ingrained self-preservation technique went into effect, as they started moving back away from them.
Nodoka just kept her hug on Ranma. It tightened a little bit in shock. She didn’t know what to say. Had her husband gotten her precious, little baby-boy engaged again behind her back? While she wanted to keep hugging her baby, he manly-son, she could almost hear her family’s ancestral katana calling to her for the need of blood of a certain, stupid panda-bastard husband.
Looking at Alex, Ranma mentally cursed. Well, looks like the cat was out of the bag now. He wanted to ease them into the idea but how his fiancée had just blurted it out! And his mother was tightening her grip on him. “Can’t breathe... Vision... Going... Dark... Losing ability... To make… Compound sentences...” Ranma whimpered mentally.
Looking back and forth between Ranma and Alex, Ryoga didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Any thoughts of shouting, ‘Ranma, for cheating on Akane prepare to die’, were quickly squashed down. He had been living with Akari Unryuu for some time now... Hell, for the past six years of traveling, he’s spent almost a year’s time at Akari’s pig farm! That’s a personal record for the lost boy. So, while he still felt protective of Akane, his heart belonged to someone else.
Holding her hands over her mouth, Kasumi held back the cry of ‘oh my’.
Wrapping his arms behind his head, Tofu just sat back and smiled. Oh joy! This was sure to bring back the usual chaos to the household. After all, there were three things that got the entertainment going. Challengers, Ranma’s curse, and fiancées... ESPECIALLY the fiancées.
Akane... Her eye twitched. LOTS.
Blinking her eyes, Alex didn’t know what to make of this. She had been expecting a reaction. ANY reaction. The silence that she received for her statement was cold, uninviting. In ways, it almost made the Siberian weretigress ashamed for bringing it up. She remembered Ranma saying that he had trouble with his family, but she was pretty sure they’d be excited for him. “Unless they’re dead set on that old engagement,” Alex reminded herself mentally.
The silence continued. Seconds that turned to excruciating minutes that piled one after another. If one had counted, they would see that Akane’s eye was twitching at the rate of seventy times a minute on average.
Kasumi blinked her eyes as she noticed that Akane’s eyelash was starting to smoke from all the twitching and blinking. She wondered if she should go and fetch the fire extinguisher.
Finally, the silence was broken by a loud...
*BRIIIIIIING*!
Numerous people literally jumped in their seats. Tofu grumbled as he pulled his cell-phone out of his pants pocket. He wanted to stay for the show. “Hello?”
Gibberish could be heard over the phone from the other end and Tofu frowned. “What do you mean someone needs a stomach pump? Can’t Tokyo General handle it? They’re better equipped for surgical procedures than I am.”
More mumbling could be heard over the phone. “So because they’re foreigners they don’t want to handle it?”
More of the unintelligible words could be heard form over the good doctor’s cell phone. Tofu sighed. “Okay, okay... I’ll get to my practice.”
Sighing, Tofu turned his phone off. “Sorry everyone. I gotta go,” he frowned. He had SO been looking forward to the upcoming chaos when he had seen Ranma return. “Duty calls, and there’s an emergency I have to take care of.”
With a sad smile, Kasumi nodded her head. She understood her husband was needed, but damn it, she missed him when his work took him away. “Take care, honey. Hope you get back before tomorrow morning.”
Tofu nodded his head. He stood up and made his way to leave. But before leaving, he spoke to Akane. “Akane, you should get that eye-twitch looked at. It’s not healthy.”
The sound of Akane’s eye twitching went so fast it sounded like a humming-bird.
Ranma would have whimpered at his bad-luck, but he was on the verge of passing out. His mother had yet to let go of him.
"Can't talk. Eating for two."
