[Episode 9432] [Episode 9432]The old man running the yakisoba restaurant, perhaps feeling an inkling of what Ranma was holding in, nodded, and handed over a kettle. Ranma gladly splashed it over his head, to feel the urges all fade. Ah... to be normal again. He slid some coins across the counter and gestured towards the menu vaguely, taking a seat as far from the open doorway as possible.
The rain had relented, somewhat, but was still falling, and that meant that Ranma had some time to kill. Umbrellas had already proven worthless some time back, so he didn't bother pretending it was an option. Safer to wait for things to dry, anyway. The girl he had run away from poked her head into the doorway, and waved at him.
He sank into his seat, not meeting her eyes as she slipped into the seat opposite him. "So... what was all that about?" she asked, cocking her head to one side. "I don't deal well with rain," Ranma said listlessly. "Let's just say I needed hot water for your own good."
The girl pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Aren't you being a little evasive?"
"I'm not saying nothing," Ranma grumbled. "And I'll just be--"
His protestations were shot down as the shopkeeper slid a bowl of soup onto the table in front of him. He resigned himself to slurping it down, realizing that he couldn't leave yet anyway -- it was still raining.
The girl smiled, shaking her head. "So you don't like the rain. Well, are you scared of it, or something?"
Ranma said nothing, quietly eating his soup.
"What, are you angry at me?" the girl asked, a faint tremor in her voice causing him to wince.
"Nah... it's... look, I'm dangerous, okay? You should just stay away from me, is all."
"Oh, that's not going to work on me!" the girl exclaimed cheerfully. "If you're going to be like that, I can tell you need a friend!"
"Speak for yourself," he mumbled, hiding his face in his soup bowl.
He didn't miss the way the girl's expression fell. "Maybe I am speaking for myself," she whispered.
"Er..." he managed. "Um.... Fine. Okay. Let's just be sure we agree that cold water is a bad thing for me, okay?"
"Okay!" she said cheerfully. "So, what's your name?"
"I'm Saotome Ranma," he said, nodding. "Ditched my pops a few towns back, so I don't got no friends, no family, or nothing. How about you?"
