Afrom had found the cyborg body in a set of ruins the adventurers had found while adventuring in the Three Galaxies briefly, until the breakup of that group. Some of their number had remained, while Afrom and Phantom Lady had returned to Rifts Earth.
They'd never had a use for it, and the alien technology had proven to be an odd thing. Its self-repair mechanisms adapted other parts to complete missing sections of itself with the exception of the head and neck, which merely had a helmet arrangement form.
It had been one of Afrom's hobbies to see what the thing developed, and now it had been completed. There were no signs of rejection, either from the human parts or the head-neck of more commercially available cyborg parts or the alien tech. Instead the alien tech seemed to assimilate the new parts as part of itself and wait.
Brain scans revealed that Saotome's sleep was troubled, but that was to be expected. No changes to patterns detected by either psi or instruments.
"Nobody's quite sure what some of it actually is," said Afrom. "Take this generator here. In some ways it seems to be some form of psi-tech, though others think it as technowizardry, and still others seem to think of it as some sort of life energy. We'll have to get him some armor though, it'd be annoying to have to set him up for repairs regularly."
"He's awake, sort of," said Phantom Lady as she detected his half-drowsy state, "or at least aware of his environment. He's just going to have to relearn his basic motor skills before regaining his old fighting skills. That body moves a little different from his old one."
"Did Milton come up with any clues as to what this body was?" asked the Ley Line Walker.
"Yeah," said Afrom. "Fits with what we knew prior. The aliens who developed this sort of body were losing a war when they began developing these. Despite the power of these cyborg bodies, they lost anyway. They called them 'berserkers' as they were last chance warriors, and they were designed to a variety of purposes. This particular one-"
