10 Rings (Sa,Mo,Me,Ma): a pit-take [Episode 9619]

by Kestral

"So he has the Rings of Moon, Mars, Mercury, and Saturn already. I see why you are concerned."

"Enough, Wiseman," Beryl snarled. "He must be dealt with. Then we can split the Rings between us."

Wiseman's cowl moved back towards the small group heading across the plain. "An interesting idea. I think not."

"What? You mean to take them for yourself! I warn you, Wiseman," began Beryl.

An evil chuckle answered her. "No, Queen Beryl. I mean for the four Rings the boy has to be lost. They cannot be destroyed but they can be placed where none shall ever recover them. My plan is already in motion. Can you not see?"

Beryl's senses quested. "A Ring you've set up as bait?"

"A false Ring, Your Highness," Wiseman's tone was mocking. "They follow the lure into a trap. One which shall trap the boy forever and keep his genies from being any concern at all. By breaking the set, I insure that Serenity is never summoned, and therefore none shall be able to challenge me in the future. By reducing the number of Rings in circulation, the value of each Ring is thereby increased."

Beryl frowned. Not liking this at all.

The small procession came to a well of sorts, a circular opening ringed by stones that had clearly been placed with a purpose.

"Oh my, this is still here?" Cologne blinked owlishly. "Now this is unexpected."

Yvette started dusting the rocks until she returned to being Genma, who merely grumbled and brooded about all the time he was spending lately as a bubblehead.

"What is it?" Ranma asked after nothing became obvious from staring.

"This is the Pit Of Karak-dum," said Cologne.

kkrrrak-bum

The genies and Ranma looked a little nervous at the lightning crackling across the sky.

Finally Ranma asked. "The Pit Of Karak-dum?"

kkrrrak-bum

"Yes," agreed Cologne. "The Pit Of Karak-dum."

kkrrrak-bum

"Uhm, so what does this pit do?" Mercury asked. "Besides the dramatic effect."

"The Pit," said Cologne, "was forged many centuries ago. It is said that two gods of martial arts - one good, one evil, met here at the heads of their armies of followers. When they were done with the first exchange of techniques, it was found that just the misses had slain all the members of both armies, leaving the two gods alone. This pit was opened by the two of them, and they threw those techniques within - to be lost to the darkness. Since then, whenever a martial arts technique has to be sealed, this is where the scrolls for such have been thrown. For no one has ever descended into the darkness and returned."

Genma eased closer to the pit, then kicked his son in. "Oopsie. Guess you can bring those scrolls out when you exit, son. Sorry about that. Heh heh."

"What part of 'no one has ever descended into the darkness and returned' did you not understand?" Cologne demanded of Genma.

"What?" Genma blinked. "When did you say that?"

Cologne looked over at the pit.
