Which suited Ranko just fine. She had plenty to think about, and the day just felt right for deep thoughts. Questions of great importance were there for her to answer, but she didn't know how to. It was like someone had asked her to solve the most important riddles of the universe in absolute darkness. Just figuring out where to start would be a problem, and she didn't know where that could be done.
So she went out for a walk, not to be alone, or to get away from the concerns of her new friends, but rather to do something as she tried to figure out one of the most important questions that a person could ask.
'Who am I?'
Was he the boy who'd been raised to be a martial artist by a father who had his whole life planned out for him, or was she the girl who was gentle and enjoyed doing things for others. Both had their good and bad points and she didn't know which one to choose, or if she should just pick a whole new direction. Fighting for no reason seemed to feel wrong, but proving one's skill and grace was quite exhilerating. Being a girl seemed odd when one wasn't born one, but being able to quietly enjoy the simple things, like the company of others, was really nice.
Then again, her friends were proving that one could be a fighter and be helpful all at once. She knew that she could ask them, and they'd try to assist her, but she didn't know what questions to bring up. It was all so confusing, and the lack of a solid identity seemed so... disheartening.
That had sent her on a walk, so that perhaps she could see a sign, something that would tell her what she should do. That maybe she would see a guy who would be building something for children, or a woman who would be creating something that would touch a person's soul, and then she'd have her answer of who she should be. Instead she only saw people walking, shopping, talking, and doing similar things that they did everyday, and said little about who they were. Everything was just... normal.
"AAAAHHHH! MONSTER!"
Well, almost normal.
Rushing to see what was happening, she peered over the crowd and saw a pretty girl rushing out of a laundromat as she was being chased by a... washing machine?
"Come back!" the machine called out, "The Master wants to meet you!"
Blinking at the sight of an appliance trying to use its suds to slip up one of the girls that had joined up in the running, Ranko decided that she had to do something. But she didn't know what, so she ran through her options while:
