The female nodded at the bar, and they poured drinks. They gained detail until one was seen as a RATHER dashing professional-seeming man, occasionally seeming to have but one eye. His hair was closecropped and pure gleaming white. The other was a dark-tanned glory once fully formed, Deep crimson highlights, bikini, and eyes all accenting the scent of smoke and sandalwood. After a time (to establish Time's passage here) she spoke.
"So, lover, what brings this slap-and-tickle session to pass?" She arched a eyebrow, she'd figured it would be a while yet before they got together on the sly again. Their roles as "opponents" dictated keeping a distance save to a select few, but then, they had forever.
The man's answer raised the other eyebrow and widened her eyes a bit. "Not that, my love, this is mutual business." She didn't drop her drink.. but it was close. They were to team on this? She'd never thought to hear that one for the remainder of several Races' lifetimes!
"Well? Don't just leave me hanging here! Tell me more.." was her pronpt request. The chuckle she got was enough to have her cock her fist in mock hostility before he relented with "All right, all right already.. I'm going to assume you know about Eternity's neck of the woods?"
She snorted. "Good Grief, Kami, you know that silly goof loves keeping us out of his bailiwick as much as we CAN be forestalled. Right grand cluster he made of it, too!"
Kami-Sama nodded. "Yes, but he's a grown Deity, Hild my dear, and has to fumble along until he gets a clue. Not like our ever-feuding kids, but there you have it. The point, which I am coming to, involves Eternity's playing do-over on some of the bigger screwups. that's left us with a few potentials..."
Hild waited the polite few seconds, then asked with a smile of dancing a familiar waltz "And these 'potentials' are of use for?"
Kami-Sama drank down his Neat gin (Hild drank a smoky bourbon, as befitted her) before answering "For replacing a Lost Goddess, one loathsome enough you'd have bitchslapped her on general principle. You know Lolth?"
Hild had gone a trifle darker wwith the reference, fromanger, and she slammed her drink in turn to settle down some, before saying thru slightly gritted teeth "YES I knopw the spidery psychotic bitch! And don't get going on language, you'd have not even mentioned Ms. Web's name if you were going to stand on it. Now, what do you want done to her, and why mortals?"
Kami-Sama slipped behind his somewhat excitable lady and started a shoulder/neck rub. "Already been done, actually. After she got beat by that rather.. nonreligious Ranger, Justicar I think he's called, she tried for revenge, and managed to tick off enough folks that she wound up wounded nigh unto death, then immersed in a open portable hole full of VERY holy water.. while in her Demonweb Pits. She's stone DEAD. And that's why I'm looking at possible.. replacements, that is."
Hild mentally accessed NID-Hogge, her own computer and under-the-table tap into Yggdrasil, then blinked. "Holy Crud, it's true! And why not let the Drow pantheon squabble it out?"
"Because, Hild, the whole pantheon is too outre for a race needing to find its way. I mean, I like Elistraee and all, but someone a bit more.. direct, while still good overall, is needed for that job."
After that, they got down to discussing the snipped off pieces of Timeline, sources for those that might serve. The AoA (Age of Apocalypse) was considered, but thrown out due to being about as nasty as the Underdark was at that point. Finally, beings involved in the snipped-away time when Kulan Gath ruled Manhattan (Conan-Era remake) were judged best capable of it. More deliberations passed, before they chose;
