"Asuka." Rei said calmly getting the german hot head's attention before punching her between the eyes causing the red clad lass turned spirit to float backwards from the force. "Touch Shinji again and I'll put you on my lap and spank you till it doesn't matter weather you're wearing red or not."
The punch was did nothing to throw Asuka off kilter, compared to the completely out of character tone of voice Rei suddenly assumed. Asuka's pride however demanded a knee jerk response and Asuka gave it one.
"Just TRY IT wonder girl! Or I'll make our outfits match! Assuming the favorite even bleeds!"
Having been forgotten by the wrathful Asuka for the moment, normally Shinji would have just coward and stayed out of the way of this cat fight, but right now, these two were all he had, and if they killed each other, he'd be all alone.
"STOP IT! BOTH OF YOU!" Shinji yelled, no, ordered, no, -commanded-. Both lasses bodies lost their fighting stances and drifted away from each other.
"What just happened?" Asuka said wondered just why the heck she had stopped trying to attack Wonder Girl.
"It seems," Rei began her examination again in that cold voice. "That Shinji's word is law within his sphere of influence." Rei's features then softened and looked at the Third child. "Thank you Shinji. That could have become very unpleasant if you hadn't stepped in."
Rei's bizarre swing in personality was creeping both of the teens out. Shinji's self loathing of course demanded it's own knee jerk. "Sorry, I didn't do it so you two wouldn't get hurt, I did it so if you killed each other . . . I wouldn't be here by myself."
"And yet it was a still a good thing Shinji." Rei smiled, Rei -smiled!-
Unbeknownst to any of them, now that they had transcended the material state, if for just the time being, and things related to the material (such as Rei's emotionless conditioning over Yui's left over impressions in Rei's soul) were quickly losing their meaning. Asuka had no way of knowing her desire to enter the world of adults before her time was likely next on the hit list. But that not this moment.
"So what the heck do we do?!" Asuka demanded trying to ignore how Rei was acting. It wasn't right! Then again, would the good side being emotionless really be right either? Agh! Stupid game! "I want out of this nightmare!"
