While pondering the situation (aka staring at the artifact in the middle of the floor), Ranma was startled by the sound of a muffled cough behind him. Instinctively he whirled around, settling into a defensive stance. The old man behind him merely raised an eyebrow while leaning on his cane.
"Who are ya, old man?"
To say that the martial artist was extremely hostile would be a disservice. Highly irritated, yes. Frustrated at his inability to find a door out, yes. But he'd been through too many strange situations to just jump on someone and pound them into the ground for no apparent reason. Hence the question.
"Mm, not original, but I guess that works." The speaker shifted his cane, brown robes swirling around him. "I've been called many things during my time; old man, guru, even 'hey you' once or twice. But you can call me Gaspar."
Ranma simply blinked at that, never relaxing his posture. "Well, why am I here then? How do I get outa here?"
Gaspar tapped his chin as he thought. After a moment he turned to the boy and gave his reply. "Why are you here? I would suppose that some fate or destiny has led you here. It never happens to anyone without a reason. Now what that reason is for you I have no idea; I just check up on this place every once in a while."
"As to getting out of here, all you have to do is..."
