They had originally plotted to use a micro-hyperjump to enter the system, and all six Flamberge cruisers would combine fire on a single Imperial Star Destroyer, overwhelming it and facing even odds, six Flamberges versus three Imperials. But according to their battle simulations the Imperials quickly maneuvered to where they could gain supporting fire from the defense platform, making for unequal odds and letting most of the cargo ships get away to carry word of the attack.
The results of that were questionable but uniformly bad.
So Mancuso, true to form, had suggested an alternate strategy that was bold and brassy. They would warp in the Flamberges in two groups of three, each triad pounding on a single ISD, different from the other three, but using the same microjump entrance strategy. That one capitalized on the surprise of the defending ships not having raised shields, which was a virtual certainty at this point. But the tactic quickly allowed for the subdual of two defending ships, leaving the odds six on two, where the added fire of the defense platform wasn't enough to swing the balance anymore.
It was risky and depended on surprise, but then this whole fight did.

From the first, one of the Rebel ships made a critical mistake. The captain of the Scimitar misunderstood her orders, mistakenly believing the six on one attack was still the operating plan.
So four Flamberges warped in to weapon range on one Imperial, and only two on another. As a further bit of bad luck, the Imperial the four were facing had been conducting a shield test and all its deflector screens were raised while their operators took readings. So she began to take the hits, but would not as soon be disabled as the Rebel's plans depended on.
Of such things are entire wars made or broken.
