And it all came out when he told Hotaru when he told her what he think it had looked like.
"Ya see there? Along the sides?" he said quickly, his enthusiasm speeding his words, "That's where the students sat when they were watching the sensei's lesson. And this part is where the real training went on, with everyone who's name is on the wall trainin' here."
"Wow... Lots of people were here..," the catgirl murmured, "They have fun?"
"Of course they did. It was trainin' after all. But it was still a lotta work. And the floor'd be polished by the students, and everythin' kept complete clean ta keep it proper and show respect 'n stuff."
"Nyot anymore..."
"That's cause it got abandoned. It musta been real cool back then..."
"Like when we train?"
"Nah. That's just one on one. Here there'd be a whole class of people trainin'," he said as he looked around. "And... Wow!"
"What is it?"
"A sword!"
"Really?"
He nodded resolutely as he lifted it carefully from its altar. Drawing it was a problem because he wasn't sure if the sheath was still okay. But the grip was definately in tatters, and the tsubo was cracked in several places.
The blade was still good though, and he took a couple of practice swings with it.
"Be careful..," Hotaru warned.
"I am," he replied, "But this isn't a regular sword. It's got the sharp edge on the side where it ain't usually..."
"That's strange..."
"You're tellin' me. But it's still cool, It's like the blade's reversed or somethin'..."
"Nyo cut?"
"Probably, but a really good fighter could probably still get it ta. It'd still hurt ta get hit by it."
Wincing, Hotaru had to agree as the image of getting hit by the hunk of metal filled her mind.
He waved the sword around a bit and grinned while:
