Einheriar Ranma: Never work with Children or Animals [Episode 9864]

by Murasaki no Tsuki

Hilda sighed as she watched her two charges 'practice' their magic.

It had been two months since Urd announced her grandiose plan to turn these children into legendary heroes, loudly proclaiming that "We'll teach you to become Einheriar." Of course, by 'we', Urd really meant to say 'Hilda'; proud Valkyrie of the heavens, judge of the battle, handmaid of Odin, and general door mat to goddesses like Urd.

That was not to say that Urd didn't try; she tried for all of two hours before losing her patience. How she had expected to teach 'magic primer 101' - a subject many young goddesses struggled with - to two children more interested in play, Hilda had no idea.

But before Urd had thrown in the towel, she had managed to unlock the pair's innate magic abilities.

Hilda winced as the twig in Ukyo's hand suddenly 'hiccuped' out of existence, leaving the young girl covered head to toe in soot.

Needless to say, without the control that they would have learned in the magic primer lesson, things weren't going overly well.

Ranma looked up from his concentration on a nearby pond and, on seeing his best friend's eyes blinking out of a pitch black face, collapsed to the floor howling with laughter.

Ukyo blinked her eyes again, seeming to be torn between bursting into tears or giving her friend a swift kick. Just as she seemed to have decided that a kick would be the best option, a spout of water gushed out of the pond Ranma had been concentrating on, drenching the pig-tailed boy completely.

Hilda shook her head as Ukyo began giggling at the expression on Ranma's face; she could feel the beginnings of a headache that had been a near constant companion for the last two months.

She had been surprised by the powers Urd had managed to unlock from within them. That Ukyo had an affinity for fire magic had been unexpected, but at least it could be understood given her love of cooking. The real mystery was Ranma. Why did this young pig-tailed boy manifest the powers of water magic when he apparently had little contact with water in his earthly life?

Perhaps his former destiny still had some power over him and water would have played some role in that, she mused quietly to herself.

Whatever the answer though, the strength of their powers was increasing by the day. They were not to a level that could harm anyone as yet, but it was only a matter of time.

If they did not learn control soon, they would be a danger to both themselves and anyone around them.
