“Who is Eilistraee?” asked Pewter.
Sinda smiled. “She is a goddess in the Drow pantheon, and her portfolios are song, swordwork, hunting, the moon and beauty,” said Sinda.
“So she’s a good Drow like you?”
Sinda nodded. “She represents a growing movement within the Drow to be better than we are. She is the daughter of our original Goddess, who wishes nothing of her mother’s horrible ways.”
Pewter nodded. “I guess it’s a great gift then.”
Sinda nodded. “Yes ... it ... it represents how I feel. It is a weapon I would be honored to weild and a Goddess I would be more than honored to serve.”
Pewter smiled, showing his cat teeth. “I’m glad you found something to make you happy.”
Sinda slowly turned towards her friend and took him into a hug. “Thank you,” she whispered, hoping he didn’t hear her crying. She wasn’t used to having such happiness. In truth, she had begun to start doubting the path she was on. Already, the people she was supposed to meet were already over a week late. Even if there were Dragons nearby, and even if they were as cruel as what she had known, they still would have gotten word to her.
But this sword and her new friend ... they were signs that she was truly on the right path.
“So,” said Pewter, “how does swearing to follow Eilistraee change anything?”
“Um...”
“I mean, does she give you special abilities, new armor?”
“Well... I’ve never done this before, so I can’t really say. I mean, I don’t even know what to do.”
“Maybe you have the answers in your books?”
Sinda shook her head. “Not likely; the Drow Village I came from worshipped Lolth, so anything on Eilistraee was considered sacrilege.”
Pewter nodded. “I can check around my home, see if they have anything on her.”
Sinda smiled. Her friend was something better than she could have ever hoped for. She knew even if those Drow who followed Eilistraee were forces of good, people were still fearful of them.
Pewter knew none of this. All he knew was that she had tightened her hug, seemed to have trouble breathing through her nose, but that she seemed happy.
He wondered if all young races were like this?
