"We were both born at the time of, or shortly after, Second Impact," explained Asuka. "That was in the year 2000. If things are like they were, then my mother hasn't gone nuts yet or even met my father."
"Not that I'm much better. During the Katsuragi Expedition, I was eight," said Misato. "I was twenty-three when I met Shinji for the first time. I won't be born until next year."
"Fuyutsuki's around, probably teaching at Tokyo University," pointed out Asuka. "Shinji's parents haven't met yet, I think that probably happens around 1999 or so from what little I've heard."
"There's paradox problems with this entire situation," said Nabiki as she tried to make notes. "What happens if we do something and Shinji's father and mother don't meet? Does he vanish? Does everything go on with different people? Does a finger of god erupt in Monty Python style from the clouds and zap us all?"
"Tabling things we don't know for the moment," advised Misato. "Let's just focus on what we do know. What's the first thing to occur that we'll be able to verify that will indicate that our future is THIS future?"
Ryoga sighed, looked confused, and glanced at Akane. This was so strange.
"Probably your birth," pointed out Asuka. "Though that's a year away. What do we do in the meantime?"
