"What?" Kaoru began, then looked more carefully at the sword in Kenshin's hands. Glancing at the sword at his belt and the one in his hands she was able to make comparisons fairly quickly. "Same swordsmith?"
"No, that is not the case. The watermarks match exactly," pointed out Kenshin, drawing his sword and the other sword and holding them together.
"That's just plain weird," said Sagara. "Almost like a mirror except that sword is so..."
"Old," said Kaoru. "It looks like it was coated in wax at one point but the wax is worn off except there near the grip."
"This is the same sword, not a copy, but much older," Kenshin pronounced. He knew this sword like his own arm - the years had not been kind to it and it had not been maintained, but it was his sword. "The girl with the cat ears had it. I tried to catch her but only managed to grab the sword."
"Then she's pretty damn fast," pointed out Sagara. "Some sort of demon?"
"Maybe the boy is some kinda priest type and that's his shikigami?" the young boy asked, trying to make sense of events.
"That makes as much sense as anything else," said Megumi who had been a little startled to see creatures out of myth getting into a rumble in the backyard. "So where could they have come from?"
Kaoru didn't want to say it but the evidence only made sense if it were put together in one way. "The future."
"Oh come on," said Megumi, "that's... not as outlandish as a girl-cat-demon and a dog-girl-demon, I suppose."
Kenshin slid both blades into place before he spoke. "Whatever this means, one thing am I sure of. Those two are not from here and may get into trouble without trying."
"RIGHT! Let's find them!" Sagara preferred action to talk anyway.
