Ami nodded. She had no desire to be turned into some sort of rampaging monster. And the idea of becoming a powerful sorceress, fighting for the freedom of humankind... that did appeal. Something about the story felt so very right. "Yes," she murmurs, "I will try."
Beryl smiled back. "It will take several days to prepare for it, to build sufficient power to keep your mind intact. When it is all prepared, we will try to trigger the awakening and help you to claim her power for your own."
Four days passed, there in Beryl's palace. Ami knew she wasn't seeing everything, but she was treated like a princess, the servants attentive and eager to please her. It seemed incredibly decadent, but she slowly became used to it. On the third day she caught herself flirting with one of the servant girls, brushing her breast across the girl's hand as she was dressed. The girl grinned and gave her a pleasant little tweak, and she found herself tempted to continue. Then her sense reasserted itself, and she just ruffled the girl's hair and let her continue.
On the fifth day, she knelt in the middle of the ritual circle, wrapped in a simple gown of ice-blue silk, as Beryl and her four chief mages worked the spell around her. She could feel the power building around her, the trickle of memories returning from the ancient days. Of being a warrior and sorceress, powerful and proud, expecting obedience and deference from all around her.
