Path of a Zoid Warrior: Ronins [Episode 99858]

by Earthchild

Tenchi was the first out of the Hover Cargo into the hot desert air. He did not see his opponents nor the Judge Capsule anywhere. “Well, guess we’re early,” he muttered to himself.

Tenchi Misaki came from a very noteworthy family of Zoid Warriors. His mother, before her death, and his grandfather were accomplished Zoid Warriors. He had been trained to operate Tenken, ever since he was 9 years old.

On top of that his great-grandfather owned Jurai Zoid Inc. A company noted for the excellent Zoids and Zoid products it produced. Which was why he found himself living constantly in their shadow and under pressure to live up to their expectations. He had managed to get the ‘romantic’ attention of the Ryoko, daughter of Washu, Chief scientist of JZI, and his grand aunt Ayeka, who was around his age. (Don’t ask.) He just had to get away. And so he set out to prove himself and also to find himself.

Which is why he was in this battle. Tenken whooped as she sensed the approach of unknown Zoids. Looks like the opposition was here.

His name had been Keitaro Urashima. For now, it was just Keitaro. He was on a mission. A quest to fulfill a promise made during his childhood.

The memory of it was vague. But he remembered playing with a little girl in a sandbox near his home when he was about 5 years old. The two usually played there together. One day the girl made a pinky promise with him. He could remember that moment well.

“Hey Kei-chan guess what I heard. I heard that if a girl and a boy make it to S class then they would be destined for each other forever.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t you think that’s great?”
“I guess…”
“Hey I know lets promise to meet each other in the S class, ‘kay? Come ‘on pinky promise?”
“Uhhh ok…”

“Damn that still brings tears my eyes. Its taken time but we are so close now. Soon we’ll meet each other,” he mumbled, smiling slightly. 2 years of hard work came down to this battle. If they one they were in the A-class. So close …. Now if only he could remember her name….. or what she looked like…..

“We’re there. Good luck guys,” came Keiichi’s voice over the net. Keitaro snapped back to reality. As he looked up he saw Tenchi’s Shadow Fox and Ranma’s Lightning Siaxs move towards the door. His teammates. With another smile he moved his Gunbluster, affectionately known as Turtle, to follow the rest of the team to battle.

Yusuke Urameshi sighed as he watched the others exit the hanger.

“This sucks,” he swore. “Can’t believe I’m not going out there. All for the better I guess.” He looked to the corner where his Dark Horn was standing, panels open and a few wires hanging out. “Keiichi said it would take about another week for all the repairs and upgrades to be finished. Can’t believe as stupid D-Bison nailed me.”

He was bored. And he left home because he was bored…. And he was broke… And needed a job.

Yusuke walked to the elevator to go to the Tactical room, so that he could watch the battle.

Keiichi Morisato leaned back in his chair after the guys had gone off to battle. As much as he loved to work on Zoids, battling was not for him. He was happy fixing and upgrading the others Zoids.

He briefly watched Yugi Moto leaning over the tactical map. Strategy wasn’t his thing either. During the battle he was useless actually. So he did the best thing he could do. Lean back and relax.

He idly wondered how Belldandy was doing. She had left about 3 years to go home. Though not permanently, she would still be gone for at least 6 more years. Rather than stay home he decided to get some hands on experience with Zoids.

+++++++++++++

Yugi Moto looked on as three Saber Tigers walked to the battle area. Already he was formulating battle tactics on dealing with each. Like Keiichi, Yugi was not very enthusiastic about battling himself. Instead he drew great pleasure in strategizing. Next to Duel Monsters this was quite an adrenalin rush.

He too had left home because he was bored. He was already an accomplished duelist and but that did not seem to be enough. So he left a few days after the final battle with Merick, saying good-bye to all he knew and began his journey. That was 2 years ago.

He adjusted the headset as he saw a white blip enter the zone. The Judge was here.

“Alright guys. The Judge is here, remember the game plan.”

“Roger, roger,” said Keitaro in a false mechanical voice.

“I see him. He’s coming down on our right,” Ranma replied.

“I copy Yugi,” came Tenchi’s voice. “Class A here we come.”

“Don’t get cocky now,” Yugi warned.

“Talk to Ranma, not me.”

“Hey I’m not that bad.”

“No you’re worse,” Keitaro joked.

“All right guys enough of that. Battles about to start.” Yugi drew in a deep breath.

Out on the field the Judge had set the Battle boundaries and was about to introduce the teams.

“The Tiger Team,” The judge indicates the three Saber tigers, “vs. the Ronins.” He indicated Tenchi, Ranma and Keitaro.

“Ready.”

“Fight.”
