A group of adventurers had pitched their tents and rested from a long day's march, wondering if the last member of their group was as weird as the others.
Suutine, sister to Sinda, made her way to the underground city of her birth. Visions of being raised to the status of the priestesses of Lolth, her promised reward for the death of her big sister, made the trip back to the Underdark all the more sweet.
"There are unexpected things taking shape," said the mage, settling into his chair and holding two fingers up.
The barkeep nodded from his position across the room and sent a waitress with the order. The mage sipped at his drink before one of those meeting him spoke.
"It is rather concerning," said a dwarf. "Prophesies by their very nature are vague and easily misinterpreted."
"I fail to see why a dwarf is so interested in an elven concern," haughtily began the elf.
"Because anything that sticks a sharp pointy up the nether end of certain spider goddesses or her followers brings a warm joy to the heart of a dwarf," answered the dwarf in a matter-of-fact tone. "Now drink yer ale before it gets warm."
"Lads, you both weren't even born until well after I had retired from adventuring," said the old mage. "Now for the hard part. There was Drizzt, Qilue, then Liriel Baenre. More and more of the dark elves split away from the main group and seek their own paths. Often those paths are just as dark and hateful as they have been for an age."
"There are those who follow the Dark Maiden though," said the dwarf. "I've met a few of those meself. If one can get over that they look the same as any of their brethren, one can find a lighter heart than one would expect in a darker body."
"Liriel Baenre came to a poor end, and wanders without a home or kith or kin," said the elf. "I have heard much of her. Qilue too has suffered much, as has the ranger. What of it?"
"Sometimes the enemy of my enemy isn't a friend at all, but sometimes an alliance can be agreed on," said the mage. "Wouldn't you agree?"
"I've just been back to The Retreat," said a bluejay. "The dimensional gate is still completely stable."
"Good," said the eagle. "This is an odd group we have here."
"You'd expect it. This is Pewter we're talking about," pointed out a penguin.
"Coppers," grumbled the eagle briefly. "In any case what we have here are:
* a drow elf paladin dedicated to the human god of justice, Tyr.
* a catgirl thief thrown out of her own universe by a powerful mage.
* a kender cleric of Paladine, apparently getting spells through Tyr through some sort of coverage arrangement.
* an elven sorceress who apparently has some issues about her lack of a figure."
"There's the final member of this little company," pointed out an owl. "Though I have to wonder at the backstory behind:"
