Unfortunately, fate was a cruel mistress, and she knew that not only was the time allotted to her was very short, and that she would not live long enough to have any sort of real relationship. She grew too fast for that, and while he would still be a young man, she would grow physically old and die. It would not be fair to him to let him get attached to her only to lose her, even if they would know what was coming.
But she was still dedicated to him, and if there had been any way to stop the course she was heading on, she would have. As there was not, she loved him more than enough to be able to secure his happiness with someone else. That was a painful thing to admit, but he was the most important person to her, and if she couldn't give him what she so want to, she would find someone else who could.
The easiest way to do that would be to make certain that the chosen girl would be someone who honestly wanted this. Her powers would see through most artifice, and she would be able to weed out those who merely said what they thought were the right phrases. And from that group, she would be able to find the girls who actually would be happy with the Prince, and would making him happy.
To do so, she would have to become one of the judges who would pick the girl who would marry the young man she loved.
Closing her eyes, she sighed heavily. It would be a painful experience, but she knew that it had to be done. No one would deny that her abilities, even used passively, would be of great benefit. Since her main objective was to make the best possible match, she would be able to be fair as possible. She knew that she would want to deny any of them a chance to be with him, but she was certain that she could squash that urge.
Collecting herself, she opened her eyes and looked around, noting that nobody had been around for her decision. But they would soon know about it, and she had a feeling that her legacy would be slightly different than she had thought. However short her time alive would be, she would not merely be a footnote in the history of psionics.
So, trying to lift her heavy heart, she headed out to set her plan in motion while:
