Rangard was the home of a number of groups who had a number of agendas. Many of these groups spent their resources in a labyrinth of dealings that mainly served to keep other such groups in check.
Their prince was to marry, and various groups felt the need to advance one candidate over another for a variety of reasons.
One candidate was herself fairly accomplished at subterfuge. Not because of any particular ambition, but because of something of her very nature.
Her name was Rowan and she was the most powerful Telepath in the kingdom. What some called a Psion.
She had appeared on a spelljammer adrift in the phlogiston near the gate to Ranma's crystal sphere and been found by a border patrol. She therefore felt that her time was running out and if she didn't end up with the prince herself - it would be her gift to him to make sure that he had his best chance at a 'happily ever after'.
The pale girl with the raven hair and ice blue eyes had her quirks. She wouldn't eat meat for example, beyond the 'small lights' of fish or similarly simple intellects. She seemed amused as if at some private joke much of the time, and her gaze was often directed at some unguessable point.
Rowan had managed to avoid being part of any particular faction within the court, but had her own favorites within those who might vie for their place by the prince's side. The priestesses of Eilistraee, for example, she regarded mostly with fondness though she showed no particular favoritism to their chosen representitive. At least openly.
The Rowan had decided to involve herself in this by:
