New Frontier - Zentraedi War: Seven days and one week later [Episode 102433]

by AWarringer

Roy Focker sat in his office, going over the flight plans for the next week. It was two weeks since the war with the aliens started and the SDF-1 Macross had defolded near Pluto, together with Macross island. They had needed one week to build a city inside the ship, because of the Presidents order to not let anyone get away from the Macross and the try to give the citizens of Macross something to do and a chance to live a relative normal life inside a warship.

A week ago the Macross had started to use hyperspace to jump from one end of the solar system to the other to draw the Zentraedi fleet away from Earth and the colonies. They had been attacked now and than, always backed up by the 24.th Colonial Defensive Fleet around the Galactica.

He also had heard that the Special Forces had started to run Operation 'Spam-Mailing' for the last two weeks. The sole ship executing the operation opened a jumphole inside the fleet, destroying two or three ships and letting fly fifty anti-ship torpedos to destroy up to sixty ships. But they could only do it every three days, due to some kind of interference between the jumphole and the jumpengines of the ship, as the ship never left hyperspace.

And thanks to the new recruitment program and the Presidents speech after the first assault on Earth and the Fleet, the number of recruits shot through the roof, even here on the Macross. Truth be told there weren't enough military hardware on Earth and the colonies, but industry tried to satisfy the needs of the military.

Which brought Roys thoughts to his 'little brother'.

He still didn't understand why a convinced pacifist like Rick suddenly wanted to get into EarthForce. Rick always hated the fact that Roy went into military service. Everything Rick's grandfather went through in Vietnam had an impact on Rick's father and Rick himself.

He went over Rick's data. It was normal that Rick was a superior pilot, when you remember that Rick flew since his tenth birthday. But there was something strange. Through the selection process Rick had been put into the training for piloting a Veritech. His synchronization rate was unnaturally high, higher than that of any other pilot in EarthForce.

But Roy had the feeling that Rick would surprise everyone, when he went into the simulator training.

It started with a small dot of yellow light, growing into a large yellow funnel in less than a second, in some distant solar system. Once the funnel was stable a vessel shaped like an organic arrow with a dull-gray color exited, letting the funnel close behind it in a flash of light.

Inside the ship Captain Jack Bauer looked at the large view screen in the front of the command center. He just awoke an hour before the ship exited hyperspace and he had a very bad sleep.

"Something tells me that this day will be a very bad day," he said while sipping at his cup of coffee.

One of the sensory technicians turned around to him. She looked extremely pale and shaken, only raising Bauers suspicion about the day.

"S-sir, you s-should see this."

Bauer stood up and looked at the sensory readout on the technicians screen. The cup of coffee made a ringing noise as it fell down to the floor.

"Shit," was all Bauer was able to say in this moment.

A few hours later deep inside the atmosphere of Jupiter several hundred shapes started to move towards space, one of them almost two and a half times the size of the biggest other shapes.
