Weretigers, werebears, werecheetah, werejaguar, werecats, werebison, wereowls, weredogs, and others who kept their intellect and weren't inclined to bloody rampages had gathered together. There was a distinct lack of werewolves, though the lupine resembled them in a manner, and there were no wererats - though the weremice were around.
No werelions. Weresmilodon but no werecrocodiles or weresharks. Weredolphins but no werebadgers. Wereskunks and wereferrets and wererhino. Other breeds were welcome, but they had to leave the whole 'evil werecreature' concept behind them. Within their enclave they could police themselves quite well.
It was of this number that one was chosen to be a bridal candidate.
One of a number of the werespecies that had come from a distant crystal sphere and lived the life of a nomad. The Rekash Sphere had found a war erupting in their system, a war they didn't want or ask for but that they couldn't ignore. It pitted Neogi against Illithid and the prize was the various werecreatures of Rekash - whom would end up thralls of the winner.
In the end, a third faction had joined the fight. An undead "prince" who had used a weapon to extinguish the sun. Now the Rekash Sphere was silent and dead, the final resting place of far too many.
The werefolk had wandered for months before finding Rangard and settling in. Many saw this as their chance to rebuild and were just plain tired by the time they'd gotten there.
Miarra Of Fangport was one refugee, being all of six when they'd come to settle on the lands of Rangard. As with most of the Rekashian werefolk, she was mostly human in mentality but with a streak of behavior dictated by her animal nature. In her case that was:
