It took me centuries to discover the nature of spirits and souls, the lines of chi and the forces of magic. To discover what really worked and not merely the delusions passed down through generations. I have made some discoveries. Look here.
Ranma was suddenly in the pit but not scared, looking around himself in an odd calm.
This was immediately after you developed the Catfist and went berserk. The details were in your memory, though largely buried and details forgotten. Due to the brain's holographic storage method, it records everything you've ever gone through - but the details get fragmented and the retrieval system loses track. Look to your left.
"Ick, splattered fuzzy," said Ranma. A cat had come apart, first at the claws and teeth of its fellows and then from Ranma's own chi-claws.
Sorry, but this will cause you some emotional anguish. Remember.
"Waitaminute," said Ranma. "Prior to this I actually liked those things? I rescued a pet th-thingie?!"
It was better than what happened to the dog that followed you home four years later.
"Huh?"
Never mind. Let's tackle this one neurosis at a time.
Ranma looked puzzled but nodded. "Okay, so I had a kitten, the kitten got killed in the Catfist training. Why do I have a feeling that I ain't gonna like this?"
I believe that 'experience' is likely the answer to that. In the moment of fear, betrayal, and rage - your spirit and that of your kitten connected. It was that fusion that caused the insanity of the Catfist, otherwise you'd simply have gone catatonic when the fear became too much - such as is more common with those with phobias and similar deep seated fears.
"So how do I fix it?" Ranma asked, scowling at the evidence that his father was indeed a capable martial arts trainer - and a blithering idiot at the same time.
