"Mutsumi?!" Keitaro stared at a Mutsumi who had ears peeking out of her hair, bright eyes, and a bushy squirrel tail.
"Keitaro?" Mutsumi smiled at Keitaro.
Keitaro felt the leash being put in his hand but really wasn't sparing any attention for that now. "How could this happen?"
"You saw the sign," said Marilyn. "Very simple."
"No, I mean how could Mutsumi end up as a squirrel-girl?!" Keitaro didn't yell. He didn't scream. If he got turned into a pet what would happen to the others?"
"Well, at first I thought a fox would be good, but I'm told Mitsune tried to shoplift earlier and got turned into a kitsune, but then I realized I could be Liddo-kun," Mutsumi giggly informed Keitaro.
"Mitsune?!" Keitaro groaned. "Wait a minute. You chose to be a squirrel-girl?"
"A hot springs squirrel," declared Mutsumi. "That's why I don't have a lot of fur. It would have been a catastrophe if I couldn't spend time at the hot springs."
Keitaro, not for the first time, wondered what color the skies were in Mutsumi's world.
"Now don't worry sir, your pets have been trained, vaccinated, and have all their papers." Marilyn chimed in. The two did make a cute couple. "Though I've had to take Motoko Aoyama from your pack. It seems that during the previous shift a young lady named Kaolla Su registered her as her pet. Paid for the whole thing in advance."
Keitaro could be an idiot - however this wasn't one of those times. "Su was the one who told us about this pet shop. I was going to take Shinobu, then Motoko tagged along to protect Shinobu, then Naru decided to come, then Mutsumi thought it would be fun..."
"There's some additional paperwork, but I thought you'd like to see them first, in case you wanted to put one up for adoption."
"..." Keitaro felt this sudden urge to scream "Su - this is all your fault" but held back.
