With a deep sigh, the older man wiped his brow, “Damn son, I thought those damn Neos had us.”
“I still can’t believe the Neos took over the Earth. Where the hell is Exo-Fleet? I thought they were supposed to protect us! Where were they when we needed them?!”
“Spike, just shut up and save the bitching for when we’re not out in the open. There are supposed to be caves in the area so let’s start looking for one to hide in. It'll be best for us to be out of sight. ”Sparkplug said recalling his old military days as a solider in the original Neosapian Rebellion. “If they don't detect any activity they'll cut down on the patrols.”
Spike nodded, “Alright... so where are these caves?”
“See that crack in the cliff face behind you?” Sparkplug asked, pointing behind his son.
”Huh? Where…oh I see it now.” Spike said as he turned around, wondering how he missed the cave opening his father indicated. It wasn’t very big but it was wide enough for a human or Neo to slip inside.
”Damn, I can’t see a thing.” Spike muttered as he looked inside the cave.
“Hang on a second, son. I have a flashlight somewhere in my hip pack.”
”Why would you carry a flashlight with you?”
”Heh you should know I always come prepared for situations Spike. A-ha here it is!”
The pair approched cave and checking to make sure the coast was clear, They began to crawl inside.
"I'll take point," Sparkplug told his son.
The pair approched cave and checking to make sure the coast was clear, They began to crawl inside. There wasn’t much room but it was large enough for them to comfortabley move single file. Walking further in both saw something peeking out of the lava rock.
“What is that?”
Sparkplug squinted his eyes as they got closer. “Looks like some wreckage. Probably a base of some sort that got buried in an avalanche, it sure looks like it’s been buried for a long time.”
Spike seemed to brighten, “Maybe there’s supplies or weapons inside we can use. Hell this is a blessing enough a place to hide out in!”
“Maybe, but we don’t know what condition the base is in, nor how old it is. As much as we know this could be a 200 years old.”
Spike laughed and patted his old man on the shoulder. “Hey, let’s not give a gift horse in the mouth. Let’s go inside and check it out”
The pair began to crawl through the twisted hole in the structure, making sure not to wound themselves on any of the burnt and twisted metal that filled the area. Eventually they reached what seemed to be level ground.
"What now?"
Sparkplug looked at his son then at the interior of the buried structure. He moved the flashlight around and focused it on two large double doors slightly ajar. “There’s our way in, must be a loading dock for shuttles and transports judging by the size. This place must be take up the entire inside of the mountain.”
”Who cares how big it is as long as the Neos don't find it.” Spike said nonchalantly as he walked inside through the doorway with Sparkplug following behind him.
"Don't get cocky."
Spike sighed. "I know... hey, now that we found someplace safe, think we can go back for Chip and Carly?"
Sparkplug sighed, thinking of his son's best friend and girlfriend. "Sure, If the Neos haven't found them..."
"Hey! Don't even go there."
Sparkplug scowled. "This is a war. You have to be realistic."
Spike grinned, "But you can't give up hope either.
Sparkplug laughed and patted Spike on the shoulder. "That’s my boy."
Spike laughed. "Thanks dad."
Sparkplug smiled and waved his flashlight around to get a better bearing of the structure. The place was huge, and looked as if it was built on an excaudate scale. The corridor was 20 meters high, and everything seemed to be scaled for someone closer to 6 meters high, not six feet.
"Big..."
Sparkplug nodded. "There's something fishy going on here..."
Spike smiled. "Rather go back outside?"
Sparkplug glared at his son.
"Okay, okay... let’s keep looking..."
The two continued to wander around for several hours, eventually coming to a massive room filled with overgrown consoles, but that is not what made it interesting. Laying around the room were numerous large humanoid robots.
“Holy shit…”
Spike brightened. “Wow! We jsut found the mother load of an E-frame cache! We can use these things to give the Neo’s what-for!”
“I dunno if these things are E-frames, son...”
“Aw they’re probably some top secret military prototypes.” Spike said dismissively as he climbed into the lap of the big red and blue mech that was sitting against the far wall.
"You've been watching too many old cartoons..."
“Come on! We can use these things to liberate that concentration camp and find other pilots! It’s our duty to resist!"
Sparkplug shook his head, “Now that’s just plain insane son. An old man Who hasn't piloted in 25 years and an over enthusiastic teenager are no match for the Neosapians in an open battle.
Spike however ignored him as he was trying to find the cockpit of the ‘E-frame’. Spotting a crease in the center of the machine'
s chest, he placed a piece of metal inside and use it to pry it open. “Uuurgh! Damn this thing must be jammed!”
”Damnit Spike..." Sparkplug sighed. "Just be careful..."
"I think I got it, dad!"
The pannel opened itself with a hiss, but his expectation of finding a Cockpit was dashed, instead he was greeted by the sight of a golden orb that glowed with an strange blue light.
”Wow, I wonder if this is some kind of fusion pack.” Spike said as he gently reached out with his hand to touch the object.
”Whoa, Spike you shouldn’t touch that thing!”
Spike however didn’t heed his warning and touched the object.
Spike laughed, and looked to his father. "It's warm..."
"That’s never a good thing, son..."
Unexpectedly the blue light flared, blinding the pair. For a moment, Spike felt himself unable to move his hand from the orb and for a second, a warm protective sensation overcame him.
"What the hell was that?" Spike swore as he stepped back.
"S-s-spike!"
He turned to his Father, only to see Sparkplug backing up in terror, pointing to something above him.
Spike gulped and slowly turned around, looking directly into two blazing blue eyes.
