That is, if a large blue hand did not catch him, preventing his fall, and restoring his balance. Spike gulped and glanced at the mechanical had that prevented his fall, and back to the glowing eyes belonging to the being that just saved his life.
“D-d-don't kill me.”
The light from the eyes softened, and the machine spoke in a calm, mellow tone. “I have no intention of harming you."
"Who... who the hell are you?! What the hell are you!?" Sparkplug managed to stammer out.
The large robot lifted spike and placed him on the ground, producing a small yelp of surprise from the young man. Once Spike was on the deck, the robot stood up to his full height, an imposing 10 meters.
Looking down to Sparkplug he said, “My name is Optimus Prime, and I am leader of the Autobots.”
The room’s lights flashed on and smaller white robot, with what looked like wings on his head, and no mouth looked over to Optimus Prime, and said, “I brought the emergency lights online.”
Optimus nodded to his fellow robot. “Thank you, Wheeljack.”
“Hey Prime, what’s with the Organics?” asked another red robot with a roman-esk helmet design on his head.
“I do not know, Ironhide, but I think they are the ones who reactivated us.”
Sparkplug and Spike looked at one another, and back to the robots.
“Ah, what the hell is going on here?” asked Sparkplug.
Optimus glanced back to the human and replied, “I was about to ask you the same thing.”
“Oh?”
Optimus nodded. “Yes. There seems to be a new entry in my memory banks, images of war and carnage, of blue skinned humanoids in combat exoskeletons attacking unarmed members of you species and committing horrible atrocities.”
Sparkplug glanced at the robot. “I’ll answer your questions if you answer mine.”
Optimus nodded. “Acceptable. What is it you would like to know?”
“Well, for starters, what the hell are you?”
Spike smiled and laughed. “Ah, I bet they’re like giant transforming robots from another planet, or something else like that.”
“Spike, don’t be ridiculous…”
“Actually,” Optimus interrupted, “The boy is very astute… we are capable of changing form, and we are from the planet Cybertron.”
Spike blinked. “Jeeze… and I wasn’t even being serious.”
Sparkplug shook his head. “Could someone tell me when life became a cartoon?”
“Excuse me?”
Sparkplug held up his hand. “It’s nothing… really. So why are you here.”
Optimus glanced at the human. “We left our homeworld to search for new sources of energy but were followed by our enemies, the Decepticons. We destroyed their ship but not before they disabled out engines, and we crashed.”
“Decepticons? What’s the difference between .”
“The Decepticons believe that they have a destiny to conquer the universe, and see all other life as inferiors to be enslaved or destroyed. We Autobots believe that all life is precious and that the Decepticons must be stopped.” Prime paused, allowing the humans to process the information, then continued, “Now, answer my question”
“They’re Neo Sapiens… a race of artificially created humans. They tricked us into sending the fleet to the outer worlds in order to defeat the pirate clans and they attacked us when we were most vulnerable.” Sparkplug sighed, “They attacked without warning, without mercy, and now their moving humans into camps or worse.”
“What kind of camps.”
“They say that they’re work camps but I’ve listened to them talk. ‘A permanent solution to the human problem’?” Sparkplug scoffed. “I’ve heard talk like that before. Those camps are nothing more than death camps.”
Prime looked at Sparkplug, and asked. “Artificially created? Why created them and why? Why would they do such a thing.”
Sparkplug winced. “We did… humans I mean, and we created them to be workers, slaves…”
“That’s horrible!” Jazz interjected.
Sparkplug nodded, “I know. Fifty years ago, they rebelled. I was in the Exofleet back then, and I was on of the men who helped put down the rebellion. Now, don’t get me wrong, I respected them as enemies and I respected their cause but they were out for vengeance, so they were not exactly well mannered freedom fighters if you get my drift.”
“And what happened after this rebellion?”
“We granted most of their leaders, at least the ones who had some sense of compassion during the war, clemency, we granted them their freedom… hell, we gave them control of the planet Mars, though it was with the condition that they couldn’t form a military, not that it did us much good.”
“How did you find us?” Optimus asked.
“We escaped for a camp…” Spike added.
Prime’s optics narrowed to slits. “A death camp?”
Spike nodded sadly and muttered, “I hope Chip and Carly are still okay…”
Sparkplug looked at the Autobot. “His best friend and his girlfriend… The Neos rounded up our entire town.”
Optimus looked at the two. “Can you show me where this camp is located?”
