A Ranma in Aramar: Making Exit? [Episode 104132]

by Kender

Searching for things to use was nothing new for Ranma. He'd done it for most of his life, as his training journey with his father had forced him to make do with what had available. So he'd learned how to find different uses for all sorts of items, and had discovered ways to survive when one didn't have much in the way of cash, or places to spend it. They were the sort of lessons that one didn't forget, and looking for useful items was one major one.

However, he knew that the finding and usage of magical things could be very bad.

And he'd already been told about the brain suckers that used to live there.

So he was being damn careful not to get something that would leave him sitting against a wall with a literally empty head.

Which of course meant that he'd find something.

'How long's it gonna take us ta find somethin' and get outta here? This place's creeping me out,' he thought to himself as he ran his hand over a wall, stopping as he felt bumps that he wasn't sure should be there. 'Huh? What's this?"

"Anyone find anything?" Saithe asked idly, "I haven't got a thing yet."

"Uhh.. Do ya think we should..," he murmured.

"'Go looking for something'?" Marain asked. "Yeah, we should. You never know what you might find."

"I meant that maybe we should check what I found. I dunno if it's somethin' but there's somethin' here."

As the theif blushed in embarrasement, Jaim came over and looked at what he had discovered. "It looks like some sort of writing..."

"Maybe it's a sign, ya know. Like 'Bathroom' or 'closet'."

"Perhaps, but then again, it might be a portal."

"Huh?" he grunted in confusion.

"It's really quite simple. A magic user will create something like a doorway, or an arch that someone can walk through. When they do that, they build a spell into it, one that allows a person to be transported from one place to another when they walk through. They only have to do it once, and then they have around as long as the structure stands."

"Which can go anywhere," Marain commented, "It depends on where it was made to send people."

"'Anywhere'?" he asked hopefully, "Could it send me home?"

"Possibly, but I really doubt it. That sort of power wouldn't be around like this. More likely it'd be sending someone off to another place in Aramar."

Tamlyn nodded severely. "True, and though it could send someone to a nice place, it might just be a doorway the illithid used a long time ago to go hunting. And it could be a one way trip. Or it might not be a gateway. It could always be some sort of trap, or a magical device that's made to work when someone walks through it."

"That's true," the wizardess admitted. "Something like this could either help us a lot, or put us through something a whole lot worse than death."

"Then we have to decide what we should do," Kironess replied, and the group pondered in silence for a moment before deciding that they would:
