Ryoga flew down the street on his acro bike. The cool night air brushed past his face, whipping his unruly hair back in the wind. He knew it was late and that the lab would be closed, but he was too excited to wait. He had to know what was in that pokeball. Arriving at the lab, he lept off his bike, letting it fall in a clatter as he ran to the door.
"Wake up! Wake up, professor! It's me!" he cried as he pounded on the door. Moments later, the lights came on and the door slid open with a mechanical hiss. On the other side was a sleepy eyed Tofu, in only his pajamas and slippers.
"Ryoga, it's late." he said simply.
"I know. I know" Ryoga said apologetically. Then, showing him the pokeball, "but I wanted you to take a look at this."
Tofu adjusted his glasses and took it from him. Then gave it a brief examination and handed it back. "Very good. It's a pokeball. Good night."
"Wait! I want you to scan it and maybe see what's inside. Please professor? It'll only take a minute." the boy pleaded. The usually patient professor looked over his shoulder with mild annoyance. Had it been anyone else, he'd have sent them away. But, for some reason, he had a soft spot for the Hibiki boy. After a moment's hesitation, he relented with a sigh.
"Follow me."
Ryoga nodded, falling in step behind him.
Tofu took the ball from him when they reached the lab and ran it through the scanner. A silhouette of a Pokegirl appeared onscreen, curled in a fetal position. From what they could see, she had long hair pulled back in a ponytail. Her apparel was harder to make out, but it looked like some sort of uniform.
*Pokegirl confirmed. Now attempting to identify species.* said a computerized girl's voice.
*Searching.*
*Searching.*
*Searching.*
*Search inconclusive. Subject is non indigenous to this area. If you wish, I can broaden the search to include all known Pokegirl catalogs and databases. Is this acceptable, professor?*
Tofu's curiousity was piqued. A non indigenous species? This was definitely worth looking in to. "Proceed." he replied.
As the computer commenced it's search, Tofu turned his attention to Ryoga. "This could take awhile. Let's go to the lobby, I'd like to hear how you got this Pokegirl."
"Okay."

"So this man," Tofu was saying, "broke into your home and just gave it you?" he blinked.
"Well, I wouldn't call it breaking in exactly, but yeah." Ryoga shrugged.
The professor sipped his tea and thought for a moment. In all the years he'd known Ryoga, he'd never known him to lie. So if he said that was how it happened, he believed him. Still....
"Didn't you find it strange that a complete stranger would be willing to help you out like that?"
"At first. But what got me was that he knew who I was. That and the part about not opening it til tomorrow."
"Yes. Tell me about that." Tofu said.
"Well, when I started to open it, he panicked. He said something about her being tired said I should wait til then." Ryoga explained.
Tofu lapsed into thought again. "It doesn't make sense. Why would he just give it away? He had to have known what it was." Finally, he sighed in frustration and gave up.
*Analysis complete. Pokegirl species confirmed.*
The unknown Pokegirl's information was already scrolling onscreen when they entered the room. Tofu quickly stepped behind the desk and took his seat at the controls. After what seemed like eternity, Tofu turned to Ryoga and smiled.
"Well, what is it?" he wondered.
"It's a newly discovered species. In fact, it's :"
