But the idea that the boy could become that powerful was quite frankly frightening. He knew that the boy would become more than he could handle physically if he got that far, and the boy already had the beginnings of a strong will. That combined by his son's admittedly large talent in the Art left him imagining the boy becoming some sort of overpowered master of the school who would eclipse his own.
And then he had a thought that sent all the tension out of his body.
His own master had never gotten that high in the school, and if someone of that skill level and power couldn't succeed, then there was no doubt that a young boy would never manage it. Besides, if he did, then he could be held up as an example of how Genma had surpassed his own teacher. Plus, if that evil ever reared his head again, then there would be someone who could fight him off. Not to mention the fact that the boy didn't have to learn that technique.
All he would have to do would be to wait until the boy had grown old enough, learned enough of this school, or both, and then he could take his son so that they could run off in the night... er, leave to fulfill the plans that had been long set up.
So, it was with an expression of satisfaction that he looked at his son as the boy stumbled out the crypt.
"Hi Pop," Ranma said unsteadily, "I did it."
"I can see that," Genma replied.
"We knew that already, Heir of the Monkey Fist Style," Hai Pahn commented, "You have done well in your test."
"Of course he did, he's my son after all."
"Right... Well young man, how do you feel?"
"Like I'm gonna fall over," the pigtailed boy replied.
"That is understandable. Such an experience is rather exhausting. Now, you will rest up and when you're back to full strength, we'll begin your training."
"That sounds real good."
"Now, off with you, and we shall see you later," Hai Pahn said, and gestured to Artemis, who jumped in surpise before realising what he was to do.
Watching his son being helped out of the room, Genma nodded in pride. "This is nice to see."
"Too true young man," Auld Fogei commented, "One more of the schools has been rescued from the brink of oblivion. And we have your boy to thank for it."
"And he has brought other possibilities as well," Wai Ehr Fu intoned.
The elder Saotome couldn't help himself, but he puffed out his chest in pride while:
