Kiyone sat within her force field and nervously watched the power meter on her battery struggle to remain above the point at which her defenses would fail. She'd stepped a little far afield of where the majority of the "heroes" had taken the rioters on. As a result, she was now cornered and depending on her force field to keep her safe from the maddened thugs that were pounding on it.
"Ah! The spiders! The spiders! They're all over me!!" one of the rioters shouted, falling to the ground and smacking himself in the thrall of his hallucination.
"At least that's one down," Kiyone muttered.
She grimaced as one of the thugs found her gun from where it had fallen and started firing away. It was just one more drain on her force field's overtaxed power reserves. And, of course, with the field she was using, she couldn't target anyone past the field either.
Kiyone jumped up, trusting the field to throw aside attacks for the moment, and pushed her way over the rioters, trying to get over or through the crowd and out of the corner she'd been placed in.
"This is my fault for making assumptions about safe areas," Kiyone muttered. "There are no lines in a riot."
She cleared the blocking crowd and took off at a run, looking for a choke point where she could lock down one of her pursuers and block the rest.
Kiyone was passing a tall, colorfully dressed girl, as if any of them were other than colorfully dressed and stopped to warn her. The girl had to be at least two meters tall, with cat ears sticking out of the top of shoulder-length blonde hair. She was covered with short grey fur, with the occasional patch of black spots and had a long, hairless rat tail curling around behind her.
As for clothes and the girl's apparent age, Kiyone simply wondered if the girl's mother knew she was dressed like that.
"Look out!" Kiyone said. "There's a lot of them coming this way."
"I got it!" the tall girl said cheerfully, raising her arms as the mob approached. The girl's eyes blanked out into bluish lights as she spoke in an otherworldly variation of her voice. "Sleeping force of wind, I hail, send you forth a mighty gale!"
A wind rose out of nowhere, picking up the drug-crazed rioters and tossing them away from the two heroes, but they stood right back up again, their energies directed on the two heroes opposing them.
Kiyone waited for the girl to either do another wind, or else realize that there were too many enemies for the two of them to handle, but it was apparent neither was going to happen. Instead the girl, entered a seperate stance and looked to be concentrating heavily before a bolt of pink energy lashed outward and dropped one of the mob of rioters.
"She's not going to run," Kiyone sighed, reluctantly dropping her shield in order to have the power free for other applications of the device.
In short order, one of the multitude of rioters found himself crushed under an incredible weight and unable to move forward as the gravity field generator Kiyone had gotten from Washu was now being used for more offensive purposes.
The rioters had reached the two woman now and, in the flurry of chaos, Kiyone and the other unleashed a set of punches before a second gale pushed away those rioters that hadn't worked around behind the tall girl yet.
"Umm," the magician said nervously as they were getting bogged down again.
"I told you there were a lot of them," Kiyone said. "We've got to get out of this and find somewhere to choke them."
"Let's destroy everything!" a rioter shouted.
Not that she thought that was possible any more, there were too many enemies to fight through. Fortunately, they weren't the only heroes in the area.
Striking along the outskirts of the mob, a green-skinned woman, as small as the cat-mouse girl was large, slipped in and struck down one of the outer rioters with a punch that was shrouded in some blackish dust. She turned from that rioter to the next and another was shortly down, and then she'd attracted attention herself.
"You think that you can bring down the Blood Rose?" the green-skinned woman demanded. "Come on then and learn your folly."
As she spoke she backed off, but everytime one of the rioters thought to catch up to her, he fell. She was running a hit and run action against the rioters, but there were still far too many. The green-skinned woman was fighting them and bring them down, but as they closed in on her, she started taking a beating.
She wasn't alone, Kiyone and the tall girl were getting near the end of their strength as well, and Kiyone couldn't trick out the gravity generator to protect both of them while she was trying to defend herself.
"I feel kind of invincible," a rioter said smugly as he stood over the nearly unconscious women in the center of the mess.
"YeEAAAHHHH!!!" a feminine scream of rage erupted from the middle of the rioters in front of Kiyone. Accompanying the scream was a blast of fire out of which many of the rioters ran screaming, attempting to put the fire that erupted over them out.
Kiyone blinked her eyes as a draconic girl ran towards them, parting the rioters like water as they avoided the fire bursting around her.
"Are you all right?" the girl asked.
Kiyone would have answered, and asked why the girl's blazing aura seemed to avoid them while it grasped and burned every foe about her, but she saw a rioter braving that aura to swing a crowbar at the dragon girl.
"Watch out!" Kiyone shouted as the crowbar came down, clonking the side of the dragon's head and sending her reeling for a moment before she turned to her attacker and growled.
"That's it!" she shouted, raising her hands smashing both down into her attacker.
As they descended the dragon's hands erupted into flame that caught and held on to her attacker in a way that the blazing aura about her did not.
Using the distraction, the green-skinned woman from before escaped her attackers slipped in among the confused enemy and again returned to her task of whittling away at them.
Distracted by the dragon and how dangerous she seemed to be, most of the rioters turned on her, trying to beat her down. Her thick skin and draconic heritage weathered the storm better than the others had, but, even with the aura she would have taken too long to bring them all down.
However, between the Blood Rose, the tall cat-girl's winds and psychic blasts, Kiyone's gadgets and the dragon girl's sheer toughness, they would have eventually brought down every rioter about them. It just would have taken a long time.
"I'll execute everyone in front of you!" one of the rioters declared defiantly as he snapped a punch at the dragon girl.
The clear report of a gun firing brought the end to the conflict, however, as a roguish blonde fellow stepped forward and sent forward a burst of bullets to wing and subdue the rioters.
"Now, now," a clear voice said. "That isn't nice. You really shouldn't be tossing words like execute around like that. It isn't good."
Quickly between, the five of them, this section of the riot was quelled.
"Thanks for the help," Kiyone said, wearily.
"It is the least I could do," the Blood Rose said grimmly, the wounds on her body visibly healing already. "I am Kodachi Hirai, the Blood Rose. And you are?"
"I'm Detective Kiyone Makibi of the Galaxy Police," Kiyone said. "Here investigating the extradimensional invasion that happened recently." There was something about the Blood Rose's given name that tickled a memory of hers. Something about the part of the planet she lived on.
"Well, I'm Denise McKracken-Rey," the tall girl said enthusiastically. "But if we're going to be superheroes just call me..." and she posed dramatically. "Kitty Mouse."
Everybody looked at her for a moment, and then the dragon spoke up.
"My name's Mink, I'm just bored," she said, shrugging. "Who's the broom head."
They all looked toward the blonde that was staring at them with something akin to the expression the rioters had been wearing.
"Wow, so many hot babes all together just for me?!" he declared, before gathering himself before the four females, most of whom were less than amused. "I am Vash the Stampede, the Hunter for the Mayfly known as Love!"
