Naturally in order to try and figure out how it worked, Eilistraee used some precautions but also had some experts on magic on hand to observe and give their opinions on the whole thing. Magic was NOT her primary portfolio after all.
Since the elven pantheon had been meddling and seemed to have some odd agenda in place, she'd gone outside that grouping for assistance. The drow pantheon wasn't even worth considering. The dwarven pantheon, which she had some good relations with on an individual basis, was likewise passed over.
Ranma was human, and so a human deity or mage had been the primary focus of her selection.
Some had begged off, or flat out refused. Thoth was busy. Mystra involved in some other project. Elminster and the Seven Sisters had prior commitments. Qilue, in point of fact, had been planning a romantic getaway with her husband for some time and cleared this particular week with Eilistraee in advance - so her goddess was reluctant to approach her on this matter. Mordenkainen had apparently eaten something that disagreed with him mightily, and was not inclined to take visitors even if that was a goddess. Bigby wasn't considered, he was a little too free with his hands. Khelben Arunsun was apparently dealing with a complicated situation involving a wandering salesman and some cursed artifact.
Which was how the drow goddess of good ended up with Shadis Greyward. A Halruuan archmage whose existence as a Chosen Of Mystra had been overlooked by most chroniclers because the man in question was a bit odd and eccentric. Even considering the standards of how most archmages were.
Shadis adjusted his glasses as Ranma studied the scroll, committing the spell to memory instead of just casting it.
A zero level noncombat spell was chosen. Open/Close would only affect objects less than thirty pounds, and it wouldn't affect anything locked. It was as close to harmless as one could readily find.
The target was a small jewelry box that Shadis had chosen for this very experiment.
Ranma cast the spell. The box remained closed.
Shadis reached down, grabbed his pants, and pulled them back up.
Eilistraee shrieked because she was startled and embarassed. Unfortunately, this drew attention to her behind that steel wall.
Every strap and buckle and knot and stitch had come undone all at once. Leaving her wearing some jewelry, a blush that wasn't readily apparent to those who didn't see in the infrared due to her skin color, and not much else.
Ranma raced around the wall to see what had happened and saw enough to stop him in his tracks. A ten year old boy he might be, but this was odd enough to bring him to staring even without any sexual urges on his part.
"Hmmmm, that was odd. Some sort of wild surge," said Shadis as he mused over the effect and how the alteration of the weave had occurred.
