"Uhm, right," said Ranma as he stared for a moment. Finally he had to ask. "Why would a genie need someone to fill in for her?"
"Yasmina has a certification test coming up and needed some study time," said Urd. "If she passes, she'll go from Genie Third Class to Genie Second Class, Abjuration Specialist."
"'Abjuration'?" asked the confused Ranma.
"Removing curses, things like that," explained Urd. "Oddly enough seems to be a lot of call for it. So, anyway, you get three wishes. You have to use the word 'wish' and it isn't like an Ultimate Force wish - it has a few more provisions and things like that."
"Uh huh," said Ranma, his mind already caught up with an idea. "Can you cure a Jusenkyo curse?"
"Yeah, that's possible," said Urd. "Though Jusenkyo curses are generally under the Karmic Payback category and if you actually deserved it, you'd just get hit with it again or with something similar in a few days."
"What would someone do to, say, get hit with a Jusenkyo curse that turned them into, just as an example, a girl?" asked Ranma as subtly as he could. Which wasn't subtle at all of course.
"Well if that guy were a real chauvanist, always considering women to be weak or useless or something, or if he'd done something to insult women, or if he were supposed to live up to some weird standard of 'manliness' or all of the above," said Urd as subtly as she could, which really wasn't that much better than Ranma.
"So if this guy were to try and get rid of the curse anyway?" Ranma asked, not realizing how pathetically obvious this was.
"Every attempt would foul up, and if I were to remove such a curse, most likely the guy who turned into a redheaded girl with a pigtail would get another curse that was even worse. Like maybe, turning into a little baby girl or something."
Ranma made a face. That didn't sound good at all. "So what else can these wishes do?"
"Quite a lot, within reason," replied Urd. "No killing or resurrecting. You can't turn nature completely around. As I am the goddess of the past, any change made will have its roots retroactive though the effect might only catch up in the present."
"So what kidna wishes does that leave?" Ranma asked.
"You could wish you were more intelligent, or rich, or that someone loved you. You could wish one of your fiancees would find someone actually good for her. You could wish that Nabiki would suffer some payback for what she's done to you. You could wish that the Kuno family wasn't insane. You could wish for your cat fist to be cured. You could wish Ryoga would marry Akari. You could wish Cologne was young enough to kick Happosai's butt seven ways to Sunday. You could wish you knew what to do and what choices to make. LOTS of things." Urd looked the boy over. "Of course, you could try wishing your curse was gone and take your chances on the next one."
