Peter winced at the sound, his good mood from the kiss he got after saving Mary Jane the night before almost ruined. He looked to see J. Jonah Jameson seething, almost boiling with anger as he crushed what looked to be a copy of the Daily Globe in one hand.
"What's the matter with you?" Jameson demanded. "Are you deaf? Get in here!"
With that he turned about into his office slamming the door open and stomping dramatically to his dusk to wait for Peter to come to him. Cautiously, Peter followed, wondering what had gotten up the old fool's shorts this time around.
"What is it Mr. Jameson?" Peter asked.
"I want to know how it is that the Daily Globe scooped us on this Spider-Rose story," Jameson said, bitterly tossing a copy of the day's globe onto the table. "All we have of her is a little blurb of a picture from that fracas that ruined my office."
He gestured to the gaping whole behind him, now covered in plastic in prepartions of being repaired.
"But the Globe has this," Jameson pointed down at the paper again.
There it was, a full page story on the heroism of the city's newest hero, Spider-Rose. Complete with a full-color photo of the female spider taking care of a trio of thieves.
The fact that they were lauding her was probably getting Jameson's goat just as much as the fact that they got the story at all. Peter rather suspected that the Globe had gone in that direction simply for the publicity of starting a war with the Bugle over this subject.
"Well," Jameson demanded. "Where'd they get that photo?"
"It wasn't me, Mr. Jameson," Peter said. "I was in class while this was happening."
"Well, isn't that just wonderful," Jameson said. "Another lunatic makes her appearance and Peter Parker can't get photos because he has class. What are you, a grade schooler?"
Peter seriously had to wonder if Jameson was aware that he was considering the photographer bit as a way to support himself until he graduated college.
"Get me photos of this little girl," Jameson said. "Do whatever you have to to get them."
"All right, Mr. Jameson," Peter said wearily, wondering just how he'd be able to track down the other spider to do that. Then again, maybe she'd track him down again.
"Now stop wasting time and get out of my office," Jameson said.
Peter rolled his eyes and walked out of the office and closed the door behind him. That man really was a blowhard.
"Don't let it get to you," Betty said from her desk. "He's just upset that his spider-monopoly has been broken."
"Well how am I supposed to," Peter paused. "What's a furo?"
"Furo?" Betty repeated questionably. "Just a moment, you wouldn't know how to spell it, would you?"
"Sorry," Peter said, shrugging apologetically. "Only heard it."
"Best guess then," Betty said, turning to her computer and its internet connection, typing in the first spelling that came to mind. "I just get a bunch of Japanese sites, sorry."
"No problem," Peter said, dismissing the concern with a brief wave. "I was just curious."
He frowned a bit as he turned toward the exit. Maybe it would be easy to track down the new spider after all.
