"Is it safe to leave him here?" Saturn inquired.
"He's used to it," indicated Cologne. "Shampoo leaves him tied up all the time. Oh my, I remember the time he came crashing into the women's bathing area and groped Dowel while proclaiming his love for Shampoo. This is nothing compared to that."
Mousse blinked. Someone was showing compassion towards him? It wasn't Shampoo but still...
"Oh, it's just that he looks so..." Saturn wasn't sure how to put this. Pathetic? Moronic? Clueless?
Cologne was off visiting old memories and didn't notice. "Or that time we were having a peace delegation with a neighboring village and he thought one of the women there was a guy and flirting with Shampoo? My goodness, we only lost fourteen warriors before the fighting came to an end. Or the time that visiting holy man came through the village and Mousse mistook him for Shampoo? I think the poor fellow might still be running. Or the time when Shampoo was trying to flirt with that promising young male who was studying healing. What was his name?"
"Kao," said Shampoo softly.
"That's right," said Cologne with a chuckle. "Do you remember how Mousse managed to imbed sixteen knives in the boy? Of course, Mousse had actually aimed for surrounding the boy with the knives as a warning - but there was his eyesight again."
Mousse mumbled through the gag. Why didn't everyone see that he and Shampoo were a destined couple? Why bring up the past when they should be focussing on the glorious future he'd have once he and Shampoo were wed?
"Anyway, we should get as far away from the pit as we can. Places like this tend to be haunted," added Cologne.
"Haunted?!" Moon asked, somehow managing to glomp Ranma's head.
Genma grunted, already far down the road. Like you needed to tell him twice.
"Yes, haunted. Devouring ghosts and the like. Not pleasant." Cologne looked at the various scared little girls (including Shampoo?) and shrugged. "The sooner we're away..."
Cologne realized they'd left her behind. Ah well. Youth.
Behind them, Mousse whimpered as the sun went down and he struggled to free himself.
