Wild Drow Ranma: Join the Clan [Episode 108334]

by Thrythlind

Romeo sighed knowingly as he saw Lydia move to talk to the girl. He knew what was coming, Lydia got like this sometime, recruitment happy. It almost always ended up with her being disappointed.

"Hey," Lydia said. "What are you doing here, anyway? You don't speak the common tongue even, how'd you get this far?"

"I don't know," Ranma said. "I just suddenly woke up out there with some scroll talking about past-lifes and reincarnations."

"Oh..." Lydia said. "Sounds like you've had a brush with magic recently. Maybe you weren't born a drow after all."

Ranma shrugged and then looked at Lydia questioningly.

"How do you know my language?" Ranma asked.

"All three of us studied in Kara Tur," Lydia said. "Our clan leaders were going to make assassins out of us."

"Was that the disagreement you had with your clan?" Ranma asked.

"Sort of," Lydia said. "Look, kid, you handled yourself pretty good out there, where'd you learn that?"

"My pop," Ranma said, shrugging. "It's a family style."

"Can you use weapons?" Lydia asked. "There's things we hunt that you don't want to touch."

"Yeah, I can use them all right," Ranma said, shrugging. "Why?"

"Because, I was wondering," Lydia said. "How'd you like to join us?"

"Huh?" Ranma asked.

"Join us, as bounty hunters," Lydia said. "Because, I can tell you, we could really use some heavy back-up. The three of us are all rogues, makes it hard to take down the big warriors sometimes."

"What would that take?" Ranma asked cautiously.

"A little nip, some training on controlling your shape and that's it," Lydia said shrugging.

"A little..." Ranma stuttered as she suddenly figured out what Lydia was talking about. "You'd make me a were-rat?!"

"Yeah, of course," Lydia said. "You'd have to be in order to take some of the paths we use. Little paths, just right for a rat."

"But..." Ranma stopped, not sure how to respond.

"Lydia," Moisha called up. "You're point duty is up."

"I know, I know," Lydia called out. "Just think about it kid. I won't get upset." Lydia looked forward and passed Moisha ahead, looking left and right as she took point and Moisha took control of Lydia's prisoner.

"Don't mind her," Romeo said. "She's feeling a little lonely is all."

"Lonely," Ranma said, confused. "She's with you two, right?"

"And between the two of us, five children at home," Moisha added.

"So why is she lonely?" Ranma asked.

"Because we're wererats," Romeo said. "She's got a wife and a husband, yeah. But all her brothers and sisters, neices and nephews, parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles...all of them, she can't ever see any of them again. None of us can, or they'll try to kill us."

"Eight wererats, five of them just kids," Moisha said. "Is a pathetically small number. She, like, does this now and again sometimes. Nobody's ever said yes."

"And she's not expecting you to say yes, either," Romeo said. "So don't worry about feeling pressured, none of us is going to haul off and bite you if you say no."
