Great Will: Monster Planet [Episode 109636]

The event that switched the history they were familiar with to what they arrived during was quite simple and easily understood even if it didn't happen in a lot of timelines. It was, in fact, a standard RPG plotline.

Brave heroes gathered together to stop a monstrous entity from laying waste to civilization. If they succeeded, magic would be sealed away from the world and humanity would not have to fear supernatural predators. If they failed, it was the end of the human-dominated world.

Five heroes. A reluctant (and somewhat apathetic) swordsman who was the Main Hero.

Failure.

The world of Man ended.

This occurred in the year 512 AD in what would be now considered Romania.

Humanity, such as they were, were nearly extinct five years later.

It wasn't until 525 AD that the slaughter of humanity slowed for a reason other than humanity's rarity. The enemies of the Dark Lord had figured out the escape plan and altered their own strategies. Their war had crossed over and resumed.

In that other world, the Races Of Light had their mirror images - Races Of Darkness. These had found humanity in their Dark Ages to be cattle waiting in their pens to be slaughtered.

The Races Of Light found a humanity that was less than welcoming. Still, in many cases, these new invaders were all they had to avoid extinction. Time eventually produced familiarity. While many human communities remained isolationistic, individual humans learned enough to hold their own in the battle.

Eventually human numbers began increasing again. The war became a series of battles, which became skirmishes, which eventually became something of a police action. Treaties were eventually developed, though war broke out again and again over intervening centuries.

There were the Darkened Lands, which stretched from Western Europe into Asia. There were the nations that were not those who sought humanity's bodies and souls as a new food source.
