Brody looked questionably at her and stood up a little straighter for a moment.
"Why didn't we come out when everybody else was called in?" Hooper asked.
"I didn't hear the call," Nabiki said shrugging. "I was underwater. Then the shark came from up current and I didn't notice it until was almost on top of me, barely got around it and headed for the shallows."
"Wait, you outswam it to the shallows?" Hooper asked.
"Well, I suppose it decided it wasn't worth it to turn around," Nabiki said. "The last sight I had of it was a tail going the other way." She shrugged again.
"Any idea what sort of breed it was?" he asked again.
"No clue," Nabiki said. "My professional curiousity wasn't my top priority at the time."
"And you were around for the other attack," Hooper said. "Why were you going into the water again?"
Nabiki hmphed and looked at him.
"I'm not about to let some dumb brute keep me out of the water," Nabiki said firmly.
"Were you the anonymous caller?" Brody asked suddenly, standing up and drawing Hoopers confused look.
"Yes," Nabiki said without pausing or regret. "I had hoped that would be the end of it. Obviously not."
"And you say the shark was four times your size?" Brody asked. "Because the shark I saw was about eight feet, maybe."
"Really?" Nabiki said, thoughtfully before adding something in Japanese that he couldn't make out and seemed to be directed at herself. "Maybe I misjudged the size in the heat of the moment. Listen, I really don't have much else to offer you."
That was the truth, she really didn't. Other than the fact that there were two sharks in the water that day, and she was one of them.
"Okay," Hooper said, looking to Brody for a moment. "That'll be about it then."
