Well, not particularly fast by her standards, at least.
What certainly did not please Nabiki was the multitude of idiots that had arrived for this "shark hunt." Some moron who'd witnessed the second attack had loudly publicized that he was going to be the one to bring down the shark and then had the gall to put a wager on it, saying he'd pay anyone that beat him to the punch.
She shook her head exasperatedly as she looked on.
Sailing was not her preferred method of enjoying the ocean, she didn't like to be that seperate from the water when she was so close, and as such she knew little about the mechanics of the sport. She knew enough, however, to know that there were a large of number of prime idiots in the harbor.
"All this noise is going to do is drive the hunting away for a week or more," she complained bitterly.
"You mean fishing," a voice said, drawing her attention.
Nabiki turned and saw a youngish man, perhaps five years older than her, with a sandy growth of beard and dressed in sailing gear and wearing glasses. He smelled of antiseptic and salt-water. A scientist, she imagined.
"Hmm?" she asked.
"You said they're going to drive the hunting away," the man repeated. "I assume you meant the fishing, since it isn't like they're heading into the woods with this nonsense."
"Oh, yes," Nabiki said, realizing her error. "The fishing." She looked back out at the buy and clicked irritably, distracted again by the prospect that, even when she was healed, that most of the hunting would be sparse for a while.
"Do you know where I can find the police chief?" the asked.
"I think he should be over near the boat house," Nabiki said pointing in the correct direction. "They're attempting to make some sense of organization about this mess over there."
"Thanks," the sailor said and he started to move in that direction, but stopped and looked back at Nabiki curiously. "Nabiki Tendo."
"Pardon, do I know you?" Nabiki asked, turning to face him.
"No, but anybody in the business knows you," was the answer. "Matt Hooper."
"The busi..." Nabiki figured it out then. "Oh, you know about my little encounter then."
"Anomalies like that make the rounds, shark research is a small world," the man said.
"Yes," Nabiki said. "I've heard about you as well, read a few of your articles. Very interesting stuff."
"Just theories I agree with," Hooper said. "I can't say I've come up with any on my own. I heard you took the other path."
"If by other path you mean that I am more interested in the folk lore of the shark, then, yes," Nabiki said.
"What are you doing here?" Hooper asked.
"Vacation," Nabiki said. "One that the brute out there is ruining quite nicely." She waved in the general direction of the ocean.
"You've seen it?" Hooper asked.
Nabiki hmphed and lifted a bit of her t-shirt to show the still healing skin.
"It brushed me," she said.
"I'll probably have to talk to you later then," Hooper said. "Would walk with me to find Chief Brody?"
"I suppose it will take my mind off the idiocy out there that's ruining the...fishing," Nabiki said, shaking her head.
