Nabiki could have added a couple other possible complications, but she had no desire to end up being taken to the madhouse, or tested.
A little hunting and swimming and she'd be fine. Of course, the chance she'd get a chance to hunt safely right now was slim, especially with that wound. She'd be like a beacon. No, to be safe she was just going to have to settle for the slow way of doing things.
Of course, that left her mostly useless for dealing with that thing.
"As if I'm not already," Nabiki muttered.
What Nabiki had sensed was either too brief, or two far away with nothing for reference for her to accurately gauge the shark's size or breed. Other than one general word: big.
To now Nabiki's methods of dealing with such things was avoidance. She'd never had Ranma or Akane's urge to run headlong into challenges that looked to big for her. Now that one had run into her, she sort of wished she had.
A knock on the door attracted her attention and she started to turn over and look toward it. Until she remembered why she was on her side.
"Gah!" she gasped as weight started to settle on the scraped and bruised skin.
She quickly rolled back to her other side and then sat up before turning around.
"Who is it?" Nabiki snapped angrily as she turned around until she noticed the cop standing there.
"Sorry," he said. "Should you be sitting up?"
"The tail hit my side," Nabiki said. "Not my butt. Is there something you want?"
"I would have thought you'd have left the island after last week," Brody said.
"My room is being let out for the summer," Nabiki said. "So I have to stay at the summer cottage I rented until the semester starts again." She paused and abruptly changed the subject. "You recognize me from that night?"
"There aren't that many Japanese kids around," Brody said. "And still, I have to wonder what you were doing in the water."
"Attracting attention," Nabiki said dryly.
"You were doing that on purpose?" Brody said surprised.
"Yes," Nabiki said, in the same tone of voice. "I was purposefully setting my skill and speed swimming and holding my breath against a virtual leviathan."
Brody frowned at the sarcastic tone. There was something picking at him about her, and he couldn't quite lay his finger on it. This second appearance in the area had only cemented his suspicion. In any case he had enough on his mind with the shark as it was.
"Do they teach you manners in Japan?" Brody asked.
"Normally, yes," Nabiki answered. "Everybody else get out all right?"
"Yes," Brody said. "But somebody else got killed at another beach."
Nabiki blinked and deflated somewhat.
