Ranko and her sisters stood in front of the sign, an interested look on their faces.
“Hm, wonder what this is about...” Akane asked, cocking her head to a side.
“Probably something that'll end up causing massive amounts of personal and property damage, no doubt,” Nabiki replied. “Par for the course, really.”
“I dunno,” Ranko uttered contemplatively. “Looks like it could be fun. Besides, I'm always up for some athletics.”
Nabiki groaned and shook her head as she shrugged. “You know it'll end up being a disaster, Ranko,” she sighed. “Every time a big event happens at the school, it turns out to be a calamity.”
“Well, it's not always that bad,” Akane retorted, trying to put a happy face on the situation. “I mean there was the time when... Well... You know, that one time...”
Nabiki smirked as she saw her sister squirm. “Exactly,” she snickered. “Nothing ever goes by without damage, either personal or property.”
“Well this sounds like it couldn't possibly be a problem,” Ranko shot back. “It's an all-girl athletic competition, so we can't possibly have some guy trying to grab and grope us.”
“No, you'd just have to worry about girls groping you,” Nabiki replied, sarcasm dripping from her tongue.
“Really, how likely is that?” Akane inquired. “You make it sound like the whole school is made up of lesbians.”
Nabiki just whistled innocently as she shot Ranko and Akane a leering gaze.
“Okay, we really don't need to know, Nabs,” Ranko stammered.
“Yeah, TMI,” Akane agreed. “Anyway, I'll go sign up. How about you, Ranko?”
“Sure!” Ranko exclaimed. “This sounds fun.”
With that, the two ran off into the school building, leaving Nabiki in the dust.
“Oh well, I'll get the camera ready,” Nabiki consoled herself. “If it's anything like last time, Kuno'll pay a fortune.”
Before leaving, Nabiki took a look at the sign one more time.
