For Ranma, it was primarily the fact that he was running low on energy. Being only mortal, he had so much that he could work with, and with the stress of changing for the first time, as well as the fight before the event and the wounds he had sustained, his reserves were running on dry. He knew that he needed some rest badly, due to the fact that just moving was a chore all in itself.
Saffron, on the other hand, had a nearly unlimited power supply, what he lacked was fighting skill. Without the support of his wings, and his inability to use his left arm, he would have to play defensively and not let the beast that Ranma had become in close.
Saffron began by chucking another ball of fire at Ranma, who rolled under it, in order to close the distance. Retreating, Saffron made a sweeping motion with a flaming hand, causing a small wall of flames to erupt in between the two. Growling, Ranma stopped his momentum, instead opting to circle around to reach Saffron, though he was still fifteen feet away.
Saffron was waiting, flinging a small ball at Ranma. Smirking, Ranma sidestepped, only to see another fireball soar straight into his chest. If it was larger, it would have knocked Ranma into the ground while incinerating his lungs; as it was, it merely set him back and roasted his fur. Dazed, Ranma put out the smoldering fur and glared at the fire bird, who was now wearing the smirk.
"It looks like you're still not strong enough to beat me, Saotome," he taunted, believing that he was the superior one here. What he got in return was a roar, and the brown furred beast sprinted at him.
This tactic caught Saffron off guard, who believed he was to weak to be able to move at that sort of speed. This gave Ranma an advantage, which he took by slamming his knee into Saffron's gut. Ignoring the gasp that the godling released, Ranma brought his leg down, and delivered an elbow strike to Saffron's face, delighted that the blow was followed by a small cracking sound.
Saffron stumbled back a few steps, then, bringing his good hand to his bleeding shoulder, he stepped back to Ranma. This confused Ranma, just long enough for Saffron to fling the lava like blood into his eye. Stunned, Ranma could only cry in pain as the blood burned away his left eyeball.
Uttering a short laugh, Saffron ignited his hand on fire, and slashed at Ranma's chest. The flaming talons ripped at the healing fur, causing it to reignite. Saffron continued his assault, shredding the fur, skin, and muscle off of his abdominal, chest, and forearm, before Ranma was able to put up a defense by lashing at the god king with a round kick. He tried to dodge, but the kick clipped him in the side, spinning him around and knocking him down.
Ranma panted with pain, his arm held away from his injured eye to reveal a gaping, burnt out socket, blood slowly seeping out of it. Growling, he tried to remain concious while glaring at the pheonix, who was slowly getting back up while regaining his breath. Without a cry, Ranma gathered energy desperately, flinging a weak Moko Takabisha at the pheonix. Unexpectedly, it only hit the ground directly in front of the bird, causing earth to erupt in front of Saffron. Ranma stared with his one eye, then cursed; he had forgotten that the loss of an eye would cause his depth prespection to go out of whack. Saffron still had two good eyes, though, and nailed Ranma with a flung fireball, which knocked him on his rear.
Slowly, Ranma got onto his feet, only to stumble and fall onto his knees. His body wavered, threatening to collapse despite the desperate situation. He looked up to see Saffron advancing, fires burning on his hand and in his eyes. Slowly, Ranma realized that if he didn't do something fast, he was dead.
His eyes widened as he realized what he had to do. He watched Saffron approach, also looking worse for the wear, but victorious. "Well, it looks like I win this round, Saotome," he taunted again, though somewhat pained whenever he spoke; the Japanese boy smirked mentally as he remembered when he cracked the God King's jaw. "Unfortunately, unless you to can reincarnate yourself, this will be our last match. A pity, but you deserve it. After all, you dared to kill me." He reached Ranma, and slowly, reached out his hand, intent on incinerating the lycanthrope's head. "Goodbye, Saotome," he said at last, grabbing the fighter's face.
During Saffron's speech, Ranma had concentrated the last remaining vestages of ki that he had left in his body, preparing for a final attack. Saffron's intent to burn Ranma to death with his own talons, though painful, also provided Ranma an opportunity that he would be stupid not to use. Shunting away all the pain, Ranma shaped his right hand into a spear hand, and slammed it into Saffron's chest with all of his might. The hand pierced through the chest with ease, ripping out of the surprised king's back. Slowly, but surely, Saffron fell backwards, losing his flaming grip on the scorched face of the lycanthrope, and losing Ranma's arm through his chest.
Ranma screamed in pain, due to the fact that he arm was literally covered in the godling's guts. That, of course, meant that his hand and arm was being eaten away by the lava-like blood. It wasn't long before one could see the bone of his arm; fortunately by that time, Ranma had fallen unconcious.
