The opening of the first scroll was soon felt across Rokugan and deep into other territories.
Ranma's growing laugh died before it could be released as the wave of evil tidings washed over Kyuden Hida. Because of his sensitivity to chi, he felt the darkness more then most. All thoughts were taken off of matrimony as the dark forces twisted his stomach.
"This isn’t good," Ranma whispered.

Hida Kyoko shuttered as she laid down to sleep. It felt like someone had just walked over her grave.

Isawa Kiima poured over the scroll on the table before her involved a theory as to how the Akuma and other oni were original created. Certainly if oni could be created...then other, more appropriate spirits, could be given shape.
At least that was the image in Kiima's mind, an army of minor kami at her command.
She would drive all the taint from the land and then they would see how powerful she truly was.
Then the scroll was opened, and even Kiima's overweening pride and arrogance were disturbed by a sense of foreboding.

On the Rokugan-side border of the Unicorn lands, Ide Musu pondered on the question of where his fiancee could be for a moment. He had not time to worry over much about the warrior, however, he had things to discuss. And as the wave of evil passed over head another such thing was added.
There was something more to that… sensation. If that was true, the Kolat would have to discover exactly what that was.

Bayushi Shoju felt the darkness as well, but only smirked in response. Was that natural trepidation about his shadowy mission, or had Fu-Leng moved early, obviously seeking to keep Shoju from the success of his mission.
Well, the daimyo considered as he lifted Ambition to eye level, he would just have to step up his actions as well.

"Big evil, Ujikiko-sama!" T'Tek'mok said frantically. "Shadowlands be rising! Must get to safety."
"Kyuden Hida is just around the corner, Tek," she responded. "We'll be there before the sun reaches half-way to the horizon."

In the Shinomen Forest, the Naga begin to stir early. While they do so a certain young Dragon samurai feels a stirring in his heart as coming from something far away. A feeling he shares, momentarily, with a young Naga diplomat, herself just now waking.
