Cologne, of course, was already up. After looking at the picture of all the young ladies snuggled up against the boy, including her great granddaughter, she had debated getting them up early but decided that she'd fix a nice stew for breakfast and if they slept in it would cut down on the all the "is it done yet?" interruptions.
They began to stir anyway as the smell of cooking rabbit (she'd set snares before the ghost stories of the previous night) and wild onions and potatoes began wafting through the still morning air.
Cologne threw one of the large daikon (Japanese radish) up into the air where it was transformed into little cubes that landed in the stew. Onion. (dice). Potato (peel) (slice). A few herbs. (chop) the stake cooked rabbit meat. (chunk).
By this time several young heads were staring at the display. Cologne started juggling several more items and preparing them with little flashes of her knife as they spun in midair. "I'd suggest you all stretch out some before training begins."
Ranma nodded, actually catching this. "Anything can be martial arts training. Pops is always tellin' me that."
"Indeed," said Cologne. "I noticed your speed could use some work, students. Since this particular stretch of woods looks ideal for defense, and the hunting is good, I thought today might be best spent in speed drills. Catch."
There was a scramble then as bowls full of the hot stew were sent on often bizarre flight trajectories. Even Moon managed to catch hers, though she ended up planting her face in it and then requiring Mercury to manifest cold water to treat the burns.
Cologne was cagy and knew techniques from Legendary (Splitting Cat Hairs, Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire, etc) to Exotic (Fist Of The Ice Bear, Sharkfist, etc.) to the downright silly (Lower The Broom, Dance Of The Fire Dragon, etc.) The boy was a prodigy, and the more secret techniques were off limits, but there were other things she could teach him.
Especially as Genma had just returned to the campsite as Yvette and would likely not be of much help for the rest of the day.
